Now that my red solids are washed, I'm ready to finish my Dresden blocks!
Next, I finished top for a baby boy quilt.This one may end up in the etsy shop.
And some kits - I figured it was about time we did something 'boyish.'
See that print of the cars driving on roads on yellow.
My 3-year-old informed me that it's cars driving in the desert.
I love how kids see things differently.
To me, it was just the yellow colorway of that print.
Then there's this beauty.Yesterday I spent the morning (thanks to the kind generosity of my awesome neighbor who watched my little boys) with my mom's cute quilt group learning this technique for making a traditional lone star. (Is that what it's called?? My mind just totally went blank.)
I've been in the mood to make one ever since seeing Nanette Merrill's here and since seeing this picture:

For now, I'll keep it to one star.My colors are inspired by Sandy and Nanette.
I based everything around that turquoise.
I love it.
I'm excited to see this one come together.

Maybe it's my subliminal desire for summer.
I've always been a little (okay, a lot) intimidated by this quilt pattern. Matching points on squares is daunting enough, but diamonds cut on the bias. Eeek. But this method was so slick!

I've always been a little (okay, a lot) intimidated by this quilt pattern. Matching points on squares is daunting enough, but diamonds cut on the bias. Eeek. But this method was so slick!It's from a company called QuiltSmart and is so nifty! Basically, it's like paper piecing only you don't use paper you use pre-printed sheets of adhesive stabilizer, that you don't have to remove when you are done. I'm not far along, so I'll report back on my progress. Has anyone else out there used Quilt Smart before? I think I'm hooked.

I think it's only appropriate that you are using a product called "Quilt Smart". You should receive royalties!
ReplyDeleteI have seen that pattern, and thought it would be a fun one to make, but didn't want to deal with all the bias edges. Quilt Smart is the way to go.
Oooh - I love it! I have seen the Quiltsmart, but not used it. A less intimidating way to make some of those amazing blocks.

All your colors are so bright and cheery! They make my heart smile. I can't wait to see your Dresden quilt finished; that's (yet another) category of quilts I'm wanting to put my hand to...someday! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't always been a fan of lone stars but I've really warmed up to them. I really like the quilt with lots of smaller lone stars. Yours will be beautiful. And I love the little prints in the boy quilt.

I was just at a quilt retreat and someone was making a lone star quilt with that product. Very neat! (Your colours are way nicer though!)
ReplyDeleteI have worked with this interfacing product and on small projects it was great. I used it on a bed sized quilt and ran into some frustration. When joining blocks and rows the interfacing adhesive left a residue on my sewing table top that pretty quickly created too much friction for the fabric to move smoothly as I was sewing. Rubbing alcohol removes the residue quickly but it built up so frequently I felt like I couldn't even get through a row without stopping to clean off my table top. It was very annoying. Maybe it was the particular brand I was using (can't remember what it was). I have the typical custom cut acrylic table top. Hope the info helps
