Can you believe it is the week before Christmas?? How did this happen? So here is that list of some last minute Christmas ideas for you!
Bags can be a quick project and always a useful gift. Both of these bags come together really quickly:
I'm in the middle of making some new bags as gifts for my daughter's friends using the FQ bag as a base. (When/if I get them done and get pictures in time, I will share how I did that later this week.)
And aprons.
Another potentially cheap gift (if you've also got lots of fabric scraps) would be a fast
quilt-as-you-go table runner. Tutorial here.

A quick gift for friends who sew (or to hold paper clips, etc for teachers and other friends) would be the magnetic pin dish. Takes just minutes to finish this one.

Last year my favorite quick neighbor gift was the ingredients for this pretty and delicious smelling stove-top-potpourri from Calli at Make It Do. I just put everything in a cellophane bag and tie with a pretty ribbon. I took some as a hostess gift last Saturday and I love having some simmering on my own stove. Calli even has a perfect tag attachment ready to print.
Finally, Tipnut.com has a great list of Crafty Gift Ideas 2010

as well as the motherload of free Christmas tutorials, printables, and projects.
Hope that provides some helpful ideas!

Luckily I' all covered in the gift department. However, I will keep all of these great gift ideas in mind for the future. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteShould mark this so I csn start gifts for next Christmas
ReplyDeletetotally love this list...alas I am away from fabric and a machine for a week, so I will just enjoy others work via blogs!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those all look like great gifts! I think I am going to make some of that simmering potpourri to give to my neighbors. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have some scraps and really want to try to make that runner...not sure when! =) But maybe soon. =)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh those bags are to die for!! I can't wait to get back to my sewing machine and start some new projects! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great suggestions. DO you have a link to more time? :)
ReplyDeleteI went to the apron link. Do you know which apron that is in the picture? I really want to make it for my nieces! Thanks for all the ideas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing some ideas. I think I am going to bookmark this page for later use (birthdays, gifts to have around, etc) since I am set for the holidays =)
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me how you closed your journal cover. I see a button and loop but cannot tell what the loop is made from? I know it is last minute, but I am going to tr to whip one of these up for my daughter. She wanted a new journal and I have not found one that looked like her. I love that she can reuse the cover on notebooks! Thanks for the help. Barb C.
ReplyDeleteBarb - I used a little piece of elastic. (Mine came from the elastic piece that holds kids' shoes together at Target!) I've also seen people use nylon hair elastics too. Hope that helps. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteNicki - I used the most basic apron pattern and just embellished with the ruffles on top. The pattern in this tutorial (http://www.sewingideas.com/downloadables/ChefApron.pdf) would work - just reduce it to a child's size. Don't add all the pockets, just attach ruffles to the front (I topstitched them on.) Good luck!
I made two table runners for Christmas this year using your tutorial! Thanks so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas. All of them.
