Ribbon project and a ribbon sale/giveaway

This week I made one of those little ribbon-tagged baby lap quilts for a baby gift. One side is giant circles by Michael Miller. The other side is soft minkie fabric. My friend had her fourth baby boy, so I knew she was in good shape as far as clothes and toys go. It was fun to make something new and cute and useful at the same time.

This is a really simple, quick little gift. In fact, I should make more of them. (I wish I could share how I did it, but according to the original designers, I would need to retain a lawyer if I do.)  I also love this project because it allows me to use my large ribbon stash. :) Which I got in at this place:

American Crafts is a company in Utah that produces all kinds of craft supplies from scrapbook paper, ribbon, albums, stickers, etc.  The past few years they’ve held a big warehouse sale in December. That is where I’ve stocked up on bolts of ribbon at really cheap prices. They’ve also got screaming deals on paper, pens, albums, embellishments, etc. This year I also got some cool iron decals for only $1 each. If you’re local, you should totally check it out!

Here are some of my pretties from this year.

Since I understand that many of you loyal readers out there aren’t local, I bought a little bit extra to share.  If you want a chance to win some of your own, leave a comment. You have until midnight (MST) Monday Dec 6th. I’ll pick two winners Tuesday morning. The first winner gets to pick two of the above bolts, second place gets the other two.

Have fun and happy weekend!

Beautiful ribbon. I purchased something once from the taggies company. Wow they have a hard legal line on their products. I mean, I &quot;get&quot; design infringement, but really? Ribbons in baby blankets. I doubt if it is even their original idea.

I love the blanket. I&#39;ve been wanting to make one like that for a while. It&#39;s on my LONG list of things to do. :) <br /><br />Thanks for the chance to win.

OOHHHH ribbon! I love to collect ribbon – now I need to start actually using it instead of just keeping it around to look at. I think I&#39;ll start with one of these tag/ribbon lovies for my little love!

My hubs would die if he knew I was posting for a chance to win ribbon. I seem to have a bit of a weak spot for pretty ribbon, and pretty fabric, and pretty patterns…. Wish I lived in Utah after seeing those sweet little numbers.

Love the ribbons! It&#39;s probably a good thing I don&#39;t live near there…I would want to spend all my money on ribbons…well, what money I had that I didn&#39;t spend on fabric.<br />Thanks for sharing!

I need to move! Would love the opportunity to purchase such lovely ribbon at discount prices…it AIN&#39;T cheap that is for sure! I made my first taggie this summer…it was only a hand toy size for an infant to grasp and I put crinkle paper inside for noise…once my grandson is old enough to clutch, I think he&#39;ll like it…well I hope so anyway!

These ribbons are so pretty. We have 2 grandnieces with a third overdue to be born and a fourth due New Years…. so these ribbons would be so useful. Thanks for the giveaway. BTW I like the Union Jack quilt on the Dec 1 post!

The colors you choose for a boy themed black are OUTSTANDING…you did good with the matching of the ribbon..I love it when the ribbons are matching or similar to the colors on the blanket…when they don&#39;t its just to wild and busy….but…still cute…if that makes sense…LOL…..<br /><br />Great job<br /><br />Shannon Margaret

So it is illegal for you to show us how to make, or even sell to us for that matter, anything that may resemble a Taggie item? What if we just like sewing ribbon in our blankets and toys? In any case, I love your ribbon and would love to win some!

I just found your blog, and was happily surprised to see a ribbon giveaway! What a cute project. I &#39;m planning on making your felt decorative pillow, but I would love ribbon for a different project! Thank you!

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing the fun too! Love me some ribbon….it is so addictive and doesn&#39;t take up much room overall so can be far more easily justified (hidden) when necessary! ๐Ÿ˜‰

What a cute wee blanket! Such a neat idea for a new little baby. I&#39;ve been meaning to make a few for the pressie cupboard. Hmmm. Maybe 2011 will be the year I actually get my little self organised!

    Beautifully made baby blanket!<br />I am surprised though, that there are so few people who react to the totally insane claim of having a copy right on sewing ribbons in projects. Are those people of Taggies themselves prepared to pay authors&#39; rights to our grand- and great grandmothers that have been doing that for ages?! What a ridiculous notion that a company has developed an &quot;

Ribbon on the baby blanket is such a good idea. I bet it keeps them amused for a long time. My grandson loved the tags on his stuffed animals. I don&#39;t have much of a ribbon stash, so thanks for the chance to win your pretty choices.
