New Fabric coming soon

After sharing some of my pictures and brief thoughts on Quilt Market, I thought it would be fun to share some up-close pictures of some of the new fabrics that were on display and that will be hitting stores over the next few months.

New Fabric Rainbow quilts

I will just go ahead and apologize right now for being an enabler/pusher or if you get drool on your computer. I’ll admit that I’m avidly trying to use up the fabric I already have on hand (which is a lot) and not buy too much new stuff. Sometimes people share fabric with me to use and write about. I used to never turn down fabric, but now I do occaisionally if it’s not something I’m REALLY going to use. Same with if I’m going to go out and buy fabric, it has to be something that A) really speaks to me or B) something that will work with lots of things I’ve already got going/on hand, or C) fill a gap in my hoard stash curated collection.

Melody Miller Apple Picnic Play

So this is one collection I was a total sucker for. Probably my favorite new collection that I saw at Market was Melody Miller’s upcoming Picnic from Cotton + Steel. First of all: the apples. The APPLES! I couldn’t resist them. Plus I’ve always been a retro fan as well as a lover and collector of vintage kitchenware, pyrex, etc.

Melody Miller vintage retro picnic baskets

Tied with the apples themselves, this print with the retro picnic baskets, tins, and stacks of pyrex was SO adorable. I might invest in more of this to use as a backing because I love it so much – everything about it – the style, colors, images, etc. Picnic doesn’t hit shops until July, but I noticed that it is available for pre-order from Fat Quarter Shop.

Mini Pearl Bracelets Lizzy House

I also bought a couple of bundles of Lizzy House basics from Andover including these mini pearl bracelets. I’ve always loved her Pearl Bracelet prints and love the smaller-scale version.

Lizzy House Chasing Butterflies rainbow

Also the Butterflies by Lizzy House in a rainbow of colors. Such unique blenders and fun to have a range of useful colors to plug into lots of different projects. Both the Butterflies and the Mini Pearl Bracelets are available from Fabricworm and Westwood Acres.

Hazel Windham Fabrics Allison Harris

I’m really smitten with the prints and colors in Allison Harris’ new collection for Windham, Hazel. Super great basics. She’s made some really cute things with them already. Available in August. FQ bundle pre-orders available at Westwood Acres.

emily herrick Sodalicious

If you like whimsical fabric, checkout Emily Herrick’s new collection for Michael Miller, Sodalicious. Love the cute bottle caps and soda straws especially. And it comes in two color ranges: Regular (above) and Diet (pastels) Love it! Emily’s creativity never ceases to amaze me. Sodalicious will be available later this month from the Fat Quarter Shop.

Chic Neutrals

Another great new collection out soon is Amy Ellis’ Chic Neutrals for Moda. I’ve never really been a purple gal, but I’m really loving the plummy/eggplant purples in this collection as well as the mustard-y yellow. I’m just really digging mustard right now. Not to mention the great variety of good, neutral geometric basics in lots of shades. This fabric doesn’t hit stores until August but precuts are available for pre-order from Southern Fabrics and Green Fairy Quilts.

Alison Glass Handcrafted 2

And then finally, I bought a bundle of Alison Glass’s next collection Handcrafted 2. The original Handcrafted fabric is available at Pink Castle Fabrics and will be coming soon to Mad About Patchwork.

I even recently started cutting into my stash of Alison Glass fabrics and mixing them with others to send out for my Bee block request last month. It’s interesting to watch my fabric and color tastes change over the years. When I first really started sewing in earnest about 15 years ago, I loved the darker, muddier colors. Then evolved into the retro-themed muted primary colors – which I still enjoy and use. But I’m also really falling for more intense, saturated colors. And Alison’s palette is one I really love.Alison Glass Handcrafted Carpenter's Wheel quilt block

This is the block I’m requesting with those fabrics. And I’m in love with the combination so far. Can’t wait to see it in the other colors and fabrics as well!

So there you go. New fabric to scheme and plot and day dream about over the next few months. You’re welcome.

All yummy, especially Alison Glass. I have some of her first Handcrafted fabrics in my stash. It might be time to pull those out and do something fun with them.

It’s a new collection coming out this summer called Pie Making Day by Brenda Ratliff for RJR. There will soon be a new project with a separate preview of those lovelies. 😉

Love this post! The mini bracelets are wonderful and the retro fabrics in Picnic are so good! Also I LOVE that block, what pattern is it? I have some fabric that I think would look great in that block.

Thanks for the preview, Amy. I don’t feel like you’re a pusher/enabler at all! Actually it’s EXTREMELY helpful to see real-life photos of fabric collections. Some collections would would work with my stash, and others, not at all.

Love your bee block, by the way. Great neutral with the Allison Glass.

Thanks so much for your efforts in writing and posting (and sewing, of course). Your blog is one I always read.

Aww, man! I have been following your love of Pyrex for years now. It’s as though Melody Miller made that fabric just for you. 🙂 (And Jeni Baker, too; I think she’s a collector, too) Happy Sewing with all that lovely fabric!
