I’ve been doing a lot of behind the scenes sewing over the past month and I’m excited to finally get to start sharing some of it. This quilt was made for Quilt Market (which took place last week in Houston) using Sarah Jane’s brand new collection for Michael Miller fabrics, Sommer.
This is Sarah Jane’s first collection in a couple of years. The inspiration for this collection is Scandinavian summer. It’s so sunny and cheerful! Like all of her other collections, there are so many sweet details – this time lots of rabbits, tulips, and swans! There is also a large-scale watercolor gingham in cotton as well as double gauze swaddle cloth.
Love the water-color look of many of the prints in this collection. Using all of these light prints reminds me of sewing with vintage sheets. Visit Sarah Jane’s instagram account to see more pictures of Sommer in use as well as pictures from Quilt Market. There will be more to share over the coming months. Sommer will ship to stores in January.
I used all the light prints for the palette of this quilt. There are some gorgeous saturated colors in the collection as well, including navy, blues, and the perfect green. You can see more of the prints here. I made this quilt using the half-square triangle Broken Dishes quilt tutorial. It’s become my favorite go-to pattern for simply playing with fun fabrics because it looks good every time! To top it all off, the all-over floral quilting was done by Sew Shabby Quilting.

These prints do look like vintage sheets. I also like having go to patterns to play with new fabric.
