Beginning Fabric Shopping

Freebird by Momo – my current favorite fabric collection
Guess what? I’m guest posting again today (I warned you it was a crazy week) over at Or So She Says about, what else? Fabric.
This post was inspired by a recent neighborhood girls night out where many of the women there expressed their fears of going fabric shopping. (I don’t think most of them knew I work part time in a fabric store.)  So I wrote a little Fabric Shopping 101 for any fabric store newbies out there. It’s pretty basic stuff. (There are those of you out there who could probably write at Master’s Thesis on the topic so feel free to weigh in!)
Check out Or So She Says – they have some great info on a multitude of topics!

Great job on your 101 tutorial. I think you covered the most important parts. I used to work in a quilt store, and I can't tell you how many times I answered the question of "What is a fat quarter?" Now that all the pre-cuts are out, it makes for even more confusion. People need to understand the basics first to have the confidence to move on to more quilting. Your tutorial will

Oh man…I used some of that Freebird for the project I did for Quilter's Home. It was the home dec weight or twill or whatever they're calling it, but it was HEAVENLY. SO soft for a fabric of that weight!

Hi Amy,<br /> I totally love your blog and was trying really hard to figure out why I was getting so many views to my online fabric shop coming over from your blog! So I decided to stop by again. I think I must have found you when Jodi Nelso featured you and probably left a comment and that&#39;s probably brought by some new visitors. But, I wanted to say your blog is awesome! Great job! I especially like the buy it now advice. Until you&#39;re into it, you don&#39;t realize how hard it is to get more once a bolt is done.
