We are just getting ready to return home from our adventure in England. As this post goes live, we'll probably be on a plane. So many mixed emotions about leaving. But I'll save that for another day when I can process them. And more to share about what we've seen when I can process my pictures properly as well.
So until then here's a quick peek at the Tile Quilt top I pieced using the Denyse Schmidt Hadley strips for the class I was teaching at the Fat Quarterly retreat. I didn't have enough luggage space to bring a finished quilt, so I pieced a new version of just the top to share with the class. I'm in love with how it's turning out. I've been pushing myself to use backgrounds besides white and those Hadley strips played SO nicely with this Bamboo neutral.
My plan for the past month has been to take pictures of it with some stunning, scenic backdrop. It's been traveling around with us for weeks and I'd never remember to take it out - until literally almost our last day in England I made my family drive down random country roads to find a good spot for photographs.
So here's a glimpse. And you can tell it had been packed around all that time by the fact that it was sorely in need of ironing. Oh well! I was not going to cart that quilt around for 4 weeks in vain and not get some pictures. Ironed or not.
Will check in again soon after we've had time to start getting our lives put back together at home!

I love it and the scenery is so worth the trouble.

Everything pops with the grey background - the colors and the whites. My favorite pic is the gate into the field of grass.

Love the grey. I am also incorporating grey in quilts for my son. He lives in NYC and has more contemporary taste. Grey helps merge traditional quilts fabrics from my stash with the modern look for him.

This is gorgeous - the quilt and the scenery!

I love this pattern in your new book, and I think you perfected it with the bamboo background and Hadley. Gorgeous! These photos are so lovely, too. (Nevermind the ironing...)

I love your quilt! I bought your book a while ago and feel inspired to have a go at this pattern after seeing yours with the bamboo background. I'm so happy you had such a great time here in the UK, but sad you're going home just before our biggest quilt show, the Festival of Quilts, which starts on Thursday - I was fondly hoping you might still be here, and that I might get to say hello

Man, someone told me you had the Hadley top at FQR - I really should have posed for a photo with it, you know, so it knew its inspiration 😉 xxx

Looks lovely, especially against those gorgeous backgrounds

gorgeous! I love the gray as a background. It just makes all of the Hadley prints stand out. I also love the diversity of your pattern. This looks so different from the original quilt. Fabrics are amazing, right? Beautiful top; I think she deserved to see the sights!

Amy, I bought your book for the cover qullt, and very much enjoy the book. I see from this blog entry that the does look great (and very different) with the taupe/grey background fabric you used with 'Hadley' (although it looks as if you added some much-needed "punch" of colour with solids in red, orange, yellow and aqua. What solids colours did you use for this gorgeous quilt?
Amy Smart
I used a Hadley Jelly Roll (2 1/2" strips) from FreeSpirit and the solids came with the roll-up. So I'm assuming they are Denyse Schmidt solid coordinates from her Free Spirit solids line. The Hadley marketing info probably shares which solids they are specifically. 🙂
