This new book is exclusively about quilting and features 13 new patterns for quilt designs all created in columns. The linear effect makes the projects quick and gives a modern look to each design. It is also full of well-diagramed instructions and helpful quilting tips and techniques. (Nancy is also the author of my favorite introduction to sewing book, Nancy Zieman’s Sewing A to Z.)
This quilt – the Happy-Go-Lucky Chevron quilt – is on my list of new quilts to make. It’s a larger scale design of a really popular trend right now and the instructions are super quick with minimal fabric waste (which are two things I love).
I made a super quick crib-size quilt top using Nancy’s Original Column Quilt pattern. I love the modern simplicity of the design and it was SO quick and easy to put together. I modified it slightly adding another column and leaving off the borders.
It’s a great pattern for playing with color and texture – I loved picking out the fabrics for this one. I let a pile of fat quarters I had inspire the colors and then pulled coordinating and contrasting solids to show them off. I’m continuing to push myself out of my primary color palette comfort zone. I’m also proud to say all the fabrics came from the stash! I’m excited to quilt this one – I think straight-line quilting will give some really cool texture to the solids and create a stylin’, modern baby quilt.
