Things have been kind of uneventful around here – at least in my sewing world. I know that doesn’t sound too blog-post-worthy, but I thought I’d share that mundane fact anyway, if only to show that life is normal here too. I think I’ve sewn once in the past three-or-so weeks. Lots of real life essential -stuff going on lately and that takes precedence over my nice-to-do-sewing list. (Which also explains why I’m also terribly behind on emails, pattern-writing, pretty much everything.) It’s just how things go sometimes. I keep walking past my messy sewing space and wanting to start doing something about it. I’ll get there.
Time for a little kick in the creativity mojo
Here are a couple of prettier piles of fabric (to hopefully help you overcome the scars of seeing that first picture.) My monthly Liberty bundle from Westwood Acres that arrived last week. Always a mail-box highlight.
I picked up this pretty bundle at a local shop last week (Quilter’s Haven in Bountiful, Utah). A few pieces of Cotton+Steel that I don’t have (four on the bottom), some Lecien Flower Sugar (the apples and Cherries prints) and a few carefully chosen pieces from Mimosa (the seven prints at the top). Believe it or not, I used great restraint… If you’re local, Quilter’s Haven has some of my Fabulously Fast Quilts on display, if you want to see them in real life.
I am excited though to get some time to sew this weekend at the Sewtopia event in Salt Lake City. I’m hoping it will be a much needed kick in the creative rear-end that I need. And I’m hoping to be productive too. It’s been fun to pull out some projects to take with me. My number one goal is to finish piecing a quilt I started almost a year ago for my sister-in-law who got married last fall. (yikes)
If you’re looking for your own creative kick in the pants or wanting your own fun motivational group to sew with this weekend, check out the Sewing Party tomorrow (Nov 8.) This will be an all-day, online event with over 30 online classes, chances to chat and interact with experts in the field as well as other participants and win prizes. You can read more here. And if you register, the classes are good for the next 90 days. I’m excited to check them out and learn some new skills!
Happy weekend.

Uneventful is underrated!
Karen - Quilts...etc.
I love the design wall right by the sewing machine – mine has to be further away unless I move my table away from the window – but it does give me up and down exercise. I like the quilt on your wall –

I love the colors in the picture of your sewing room–and I'm not just talking about the fabrics. 🙂 Your wall color is lovely and the white window frame and light furniture is so pretty with it. Just seeing that picture makes me want to leave work and head back into my sewing room.

Thank you! I just painted the walls last year and have LOVED the change. Brightens things up so much!

Oh my goodness, I didn't know you were local! I LOVE Quilter's Haven!! I was just there the other day, and bought a lovely bundle of C+S fat quarters. That shop is my top fave, next being Pine Needles – which is way too far from Davis County. Fun to find out there are quilty people close to home. I often get strange looks when I tell people I quilt as a hobby. 🙂

Yes! Loved Quilter's Haven. I'm in Utah County, so it's a rare treat for me to get there. Lucky you live close! Pine Needles is another favorite too.

Oooh, I love that quilt on your wall — is that the Sewtopia project? And all of your fabrics are so beautiful! I'm going to start carrying some Liberty and I'm so excited about it. Just ordered some that can't be shown until Jan. 1st and they're super cute!

Have a wonderful time at Sewtopia!!
Sew Surprising
So many amazing people at sewtopia, you will be refreshed, and return full of enthusiasm. And its okay if you dont get to sew or create, sometimes things happen for a reason, family and friends time is more important in the whole scheme of things 🙂

I love your workspace-vibrant energy!! Sewtopia looks like sooooo much fun- and enjoy a giant infusion @ 'Camp for Big Girls'!!

Amy, thanks so much for being "real" about those times when everyone has to move in a direction that is necessary, but not necessarily "productive". Sometimes when reading blogs, it seems like no one ever has down time from sewing–and it makes me feel like a total slug 🙂

I get the Liberty fat quarter from Westwood Acres too! I'm loving watching my collection grow.

Everyone needs a break once in a while and if anyone does, it's you! I just got your book Fabulously Fast Quilts. It is amazing! How did you ever come up with that ingenious way if making the modern buzz saw blocks? (My favorite pattern in there btw.). And, your method for measuring borders is awesome! My way is a little more complicated so I can't wait to give your technique a try.
