I’m proud and happy to share some promising progress on two more Works-in-Progress (WIPS)! Woo!
First of all, I’ve finished the blocks for my Scrappy-Trip-Around-the-World quilt. I added some less-intense reds and more funky shades of the original colors and and I think it’s made a good difference.
I like it MUCH better. It’s not perfect, but it’s a big improvement. I read Jen Kingwell quote Freddy Moran who said, “10 fabrics don’t work, but 110 fabrics do.” Truth. Especially when you’re going ‘scrappy.’ (As Jen’s quilts are a perfect example.) I’m excited to sew these blocks together and get this one quilted. I think I’ll like it even more after that.
The other old WIP I’ve pulled out is this Dresden Plate quilt that I made 5 years ago. I remember doing the applique for these blocks while watching the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. (yikes. Time flies.) This one needed borders and I’d decided way back then that I wanted to have a scrappy, pieced border.
Working on the Scrappy Trip Along quilt, I cut the remnants of my 2 1/2” strips into 2 1/2” squares to add to my scrap system. They dovetailed perfectly into the pieced border for this quilt. I don’t know that the proportion is perfect, but at this point I’m just going to get. it. done. After all this time, I’m feeling like better done and imperfect than folded up sitting in my sewing room
I’m excited because I also found the perfect back – it’s a vintage sheet and it was already the right width so I didn’t even have to piece the back! Yay! It’s ready to go off to the quilter’s. As soon as I finish the scrappy-trip, I’ll drop them both off. I even have a back for that one too! Because part of this productivity kick includes paring down my stash. Not buying more fabric.
I’m feeling so productive.
In further efforts to get organized, I added all my WIP’s to a spreadsheet. Um, there’s a lot of them. And I keep thinking of new ones and adding them to the list… And yes, I even added the Giant Hexagon quilt, just so I could have the satisfaction of checking one off the list. One down, only 26+ more to go…
