I'm continuing to knock past projects off the WIP/UFO list. This is a little baby quilt that I started last summer. It's called Blossom and it's from the book Fat Quarter Style from the Fat Quarter Shop. I modified the pattern just slightly to use some of the leftovers from piecing the blocks. Finished it measures 33" x 43".
I just picked it up from Sew Shabby Quilting last weekend so that I could bind and finish. This quilt has so much negative space so I told Melissa that she could just do what she wanted and really play with the quilting. I love the custom quilting that she did and the texture it gives the finished quilt.
For the backing I used a large piece I'd found a while back from the Wish collection by Valori Wells for FreeSpirit. The colors worked perfectly with the front. I didn't have quite enough so I pieced a panel left over from the butterfly Cotton+Steel fabrics.
When I started this quilt last summer, I'd made a goal to play with color palettes outside my traditional primary colors zone. The gray solid on the front is Kona Ash. The prints are mostly Cotton + Steel plus a few other pieces from my stash. To bind it I used a simple Swiss Dot in navy from Riley Blake.
Always a good feeling to rescue another project from the WIP (works-in-progress)/UFO (un-finished-objects) pile. I think this is the third finish this year! (I need to go back and count...) At the moment this quilt is not spoken for, and I am considering selling it, so if you're interested, feel free to contact me for details.
Also, a big thanks for all the love and encouragement for this new site in your comments. Also for the feedback - we fixed some bugs that were found. I'm sure they'll be more. Don't hesitate to give a head's up if you spot something. I'm also figuring out how this move affects subscriptions, RSS, etc. Thanks for bearing with me. Any other feedback or suggestions welcome!

This was my favorite pattern from the pattern book. Still want to make it - someday :)! Love your quilt with the grey background fabric. I'm starting......a wee bit.....to leave my white background comfort zone. Your quilt motivates me to do more of that.

Amy, I love the contrast between the solid and the prints--it really pops! And the way Melissa quilted the prints more simply than the background. Congrats on the new site--easy to move around, the comments link at the top of the post is really easy to use, and Tutorials and My Quilts seem to display them more quickly and they seem bigger? I can't wait to see What I Use!

I love it. You surprise me with different looks than what I would consider "baby" quilts and its adorable. I'm still dreaming of the Emmy Grace collection by Bari J. you used for another baby quilt. And I do love the quilting. It looks snuggly and cozy. So sweet!

Hello! I really love this quilt, in particular the grey-flower fabric you use for the back.
I read that you mixed fabrics from different designer and collections... I'm quite a beginner, and I'm always afraid to mix different fabrics (or precuts and non-precuts) because of the possible different "shrink percentage". I was wondering about it, what do you do? You wash everything before sewing? Have you ever had any problem with that? Thanks in advance and good stitching 🙂
Amy
Pre-cuts are cut directly from the yardage of the same prints, so they're all the same fabric. Don't worry about mixing them - that's what they're created for. Esp if you're using 100% cotton across the board. I personally don't prewash - mainly to save time, and because I like how the fabric shrinks slightly after piecing to give the quilt a softer 'antiqued' look and feel. I also like the sizing in the fabrics because it makes them easier to cut accurately. Also, if you are using high-quality quilt-shop fabrics or quilting fabric from JoAnn's, you should have to worry about color bleeding either.
Jo
Thanks... I'll try!

First of all love the duct tape. Good for every need in the house. Absolutely love how the backing compliments the front. I am starting to mix it up on my backing now. It much more dynamic.just wondering about the fonts when I typed in my e-mail address.it all looks like it is in caps. martha.cook51@gmail.com
Amy
Hah! I was on limited light/time to get the pics with the plan to reshoot sans duct tape. but it hasn't happened. So it stays. Super classy.
Amy
Also, I think the all-caps is a design feature. on my back end, it came through in lower-case letters.
