Could someone please explain to me how it is almost May? Wasn’t Christmas just a couple of weeks ago? Life is flying by! May means it’s almost Mother’s Day. (Yay moms!) I was contacted recently by IKEA to see if I would be interested in receiving a bundle of creative supplies and to use them to make something for Mother’s Day. I love IKEA so I said sure! I was pretty curious to see what they’d send.
A fun box arrived with a basket containing sewing supplies, thread, a white sheet, a pillow cover, and some cheerful knitted patches
Because of teaching this month and a few other deadlines – I decided I needed a quick-finish project. So I opened up the GURLI white-zippered pillow cover (a perfect blank canvas) and the knit patches, called MJUKNAVA and KARRNAVA respectively. Each package had 5 different patches and some coordinating thread..
I pinned the patches to the pillow in a grid of 3 x 3 and hand stitched them in place with the coordinating thread using a simple applique stitch which is easily hidden. I think you could come up with a lot of fun uses for these patches.
This was a SUPER quick and easy and colorful project. The GURLI pillow cover comes in a variety of colors available online and in the store itself. The KARRNAVA and MJUKNAVA patches are available in the sewing section of IKEA stores themselves. The sewing section is also a favorite place of mine for buying extra-wide fabric for quilt backs and bags.

April 24, 2015 at 5:57 amI love your favorite gifts list — it’s so full of great ideas. Thanks for the update! And what a cute project. It reminds me of yoyos, if we were quilting! (And, does the package actually say they are crochet? ‘Cause they look knitted to me! ;-8 )

April 24, 2015 at 6:51 amYep! They look knitted. My bad! I updated the post. The package is in Swedish, so I don’t actually know what it says, lol, but I’m guessing it’s correct. 😉

April 24, 2015 at 6:27 amThanks for the idea – makes a really quick decorative pillow cover.
Ref. IKEA – pretty embarassing for a company of that size and reputation to market something clearly knitted as crochet – WORLDWIDE. They only needed to ask the women and children in India who are producing them !!!!

April 30, 2015 at 9:26 amOh, that was my bad. Thanks for pointing that out. I’m the one who put in crocheted (shows how much I know!). The packaging was probably correct. (It was in Sweedish, so I don’t know for sure. 😉 )
