I am WAY excited that I finally get to share this quilt - it has been one of my favorite quilts I've made over the past year. It's a fun, scrappy twist on a traditional Log Cabin block and I called the quilt Blaze.
My favorite part of making this quilt was pushing myself outside of my normal color palette. It was so fun to play with different fabrics and combinations for this quilt. I made this quilt last winter. While I was piecing this one, I was listening to the Audible book, All the Light We Cannot See. Every time I look at this quilt now, I can hear that narrator in my mind.
Here's a close-up of some of the fabrics and the quilting. I love this all-over design that Melissa used. I think it's called Loop D Loop. It gives the quilt such great texture and drape. I also love how the border fabric (from Denyse Schmidt's Frankin collection) makes the quilt sing.
The reason this quilt had to stay under wraps is because it is a contribution to a new book published by Martingale called I Love Log Cabins. This book contains 16 different patterns - all variations on the traditional Log Cabin block. Log cabin quilts are some of my favorite to make, so I jumped at the chance when I was invited to contribute a quilt.
Here are a few examples of quilts from the book so that you can see the wide variety. On the left is Herringbone by Heather Andrus of Quilt Story. And I love this really modern variation called Log Cabin Chevron by Penny Barnes.
I also love this variation with stars called Seeing Stars by Kimberly Jolly.
And I think this large-scale version on point is so cool. This one is called Ice Crystals by Jocelyn Ueng. As you can see there is a wide scope of styles and designs all based on the log cabin theme.
You can see more of the quilts from the book at the Shop Martingale blog. While you are there, you can also enter to win a copy of an ebook version - Martingale is giving away 16 copies! Go here for details and to enter the giveaway.
I Love Log Cabins will be arriving in stores any day now. Keep your eyes peeled. It is also available online from Martingale and Amazon. If you are interested in a signed copy, I have a handful available in my shop as well. 🙂
And here is one more shot of Blaze with my uber handsome and talented quilt holder. This quilt is a wide one - it's 83" x 83", so it was tough to get those arms stretched out wide enough. But he does a stellar a job. I should probably consider giving him a raise one of these days...

Amy Smart, you just knock my socks off every time. I love, LOVE your log cabin! And this is a great book concept because I just think of the "ordinary" log cabin quilts that I've seen a million times, but these versions that you've shared today are really different and special, and so modern looking! Congrats on a gorgeous quilt.
