I have been so excited to get my hands on this beautiful new quilt book by Amy Gibson. It’s called the Quilt Block Cookbook and not only is it a gorgeous book visually, but it’s such a fun new, creative concept for a quilting book.
The Quilt Block Cookbook
The concept of the book centers around building a variety of quilt blocks, based on many different “ingredients” or smaller units. There are instructions for 50 different 12″ x 12″ quilt blocks using these basic building blocks.
The hard-bound book is full of gorgeous photography to inspire your own creativity.
Also included in the book are 7 different sampler quilt layouts for using your 12″ x 12″ blocks in some really clever designs.
In addition to these instructions, Amy also goes into discussing how to fit the block instructions into different scales and sizes, combining blocks to play off each other for interesting designs, and giving you the tools to make your own unique quilts and designs with helpful instructions using these basic building blocks.
I think it’s an awesome book for quilters who have some basic experience piecing traditional blocks and are looking for new ways to expand their horizons and push themselves into trying new things.
Amy has had so much experience designing clever and unique quilt blocks. I loved flipping through the pages and marking blocks I want to make. The fun thing about quilt blocks is that they’re like a mini quilt. They’re a great way to try new techniques, layouts, color and fabric combinations without getting bored doing the same thing over and over again. Then you can assemble them into a really fun, creative finished quilt.
The Quilt Block Cookbook is hopefully available now in your favorite local quilt shops (I’ve seen it already in a few different places.) You can also find it online. With it’s beautiful hardcover and gorgeous photography, plus the endless variety of options and designs to fit the taste of every quilter, I’m thinking it would be the perfect gift for quilter friends!
