A few fun things to share: I’ve been working on a new project to share next week as part of Baby Lock’s Love of Sewing Challenge, featuring the new Destiny II Sewing and Embroidery machine. I’m so excited to be a part of this challenge – along with 11 other sewists (better word than sewers, right?) each sharing a free project and showcasing a different feature of this machine. This is my first ever embroidery machine, so I have lots to learn, but the features on this machine are so amazing – I’ve already loved playing. I’m SO excited about the possibilities.
Hey look! That’s me. (so crazy) I’ll have a cute project + a free embroidery pattern to share this weekend! You can visit the Love of Sewing page to see what’s already been shared in the first 5 weeks.
In the meantime, I keep pulling out my red scraps whenever I have a spare minute and making wonky log-cabin blocks. They’re so fun to make – you can’t stop at just one. And it feels good to use that big bin of red and white scraps. Plus it’s fun to pull out old fabric favorites and give them new life.
I’m up to 21 blocks and there’s still enough red and white scraps for many more. You can read more about this project and the tutorial that inspired it here.
Here’s one more adorable new project – Emily Herrick’s Cross-Stitch heart is part of the the Mighty Lucky Quilting Club challenge for February. This is a monthly subscription club that is based on exploring different quilting techniques or design concepts to help you expand your horizons and build your skills as a quilter. Each month has a new lesson hosted and taught by a different instructor – this month it is Emily Herrick exploring fun cross-stitch ideas in quilts. She’s got some great instructions and motivation to play with a variety of cross-stitch designs as well as how to make your own. You can pick and choose different months for just $5.00, or subscribe for a whole year of inspiration with different challenges each month.
Finally, just for fun, check out this cool video about a company called Thread that buys recycled trash from Haiti and turns it into fabric. I think it’s a pretty cool concept – not only making usable goods from recycled trash, but helping impoverished people in the process. I love stuff like that.

Amy that quilt is wonderful. Although I have a Janome sewing machine, I think those Babylocks are so good. They seem to sew like butter . After a while you learn to hear the sounds of a good sewing machine and I have been watching Jenny Doone of Missouri Quilt Co with hers and I really like hers. What challenge you have , its always fun to visit your site.

Yes, Amy, I like the word ‘sewist’ so much better, makes us sound like scholars more than as crafters. When asked I always say that I quilt rather than to call myself a quilter. In my mind I am not good enough to label myself a quilter and perhaps never will be. I do it for the love of it, expressing my artsy side, am far from a perfectionist and self taught. You, however, have taught me much as did Jenny Doone with her videos. I have learned so much just this past year and no longer fly by the seat of my pants, which has made my quilting more satisfying and better looking. I still have a devil of a time with points tho, still cannot seem to master keeping them and not burying them within the seems. Will keep working on it. Love your red and white log cabin, red being my favorite color anyway so I would naturally be drawn to it. I love color but am drawn to single or two-color quilts. I feel that sometimes the fabric speaks for itself and often less is more. All this to tell you that you have been and continue to be a great inspiration for this old lady (81) living in Massachusetts. I am so glad and feel lucky to have found you!

Dear Annie, have you tried putting a pin through both points of fabric at the same time when pinning to sew ?? It works well for me even when I remove the pin before I sew.. Hope all your points meet..If not it is ok!!! Izzy

How fun to see the quilt by Emily Herrick — I just finished binding a similar one last night! I am working on some seasonal quilts for a wall in my house. I had seen another cross stitch heart quilt a while back and decided to try it. And it’s fun to hear that it’s part of the Mighty Lucky Club challenge, too.
