There is a lot of mess sewing going on behind the scenes around here! I thought I’d give you a sneak peek of some of the projects that will be coming up in the next month – including my next fabric collection!
Lori Holt has done it again. She’s sharing another adorable quilt along on her blog called Let’s Bake. This time the project is kitchen themed and with adorable applique blocks of cooking utensils and baked goods as well as adorable vintage-inspired cross-stitch designs.
The pattern is free (!) but does require Lori’s Let’s Bake templates for the applique blocks. Like all of Lori’s templates, they’re sturdy and versatile for lots of future applique designs.
I’ve been working on the cake+stand block this week. It’s SO darn cute. My applique skills are not as well-honed as Lori’s, but her applique method makes it really easy. Fabric used: yellow vintage-inspired prints from Leonie Bateman’s Sorbet collection. The vintage-green cake stand fabric is from Lauren Nash’s Bunnies and Blossoms collection and it’s SO good. I used this Lori Holt Bee Background print for my background.
Also using Aurifil 80wt lightweight thread – perfect for applique and thread conditioner from Robot Mom Sews. Thread conditioner keeps your thread from tangling and breaking – especially good for fine applique thread. And mine smells like Pear and is heavenly.
Speaking of fabric, the sample yardage of my next fabric line, Sunnyside Ave has arrived and I’ve been intensively cutting and sewing. I have three new quilt patterns in the works and I’m so excited to share them!
I’m extra excited because Riley Blake is releasing a brand new collection of woven gingham fabrics that will coordinate. These ginghams are ¼″ squares and SO perfect for vintage and contemporary-inspired quilts. They’re also a fantastic weight (not stiff and nice and drapey) for garment sewing. They’ll also be available in mint green, pink, and aqua. SO good.
Watch for Sunnyside Avenue to hit your favorite quilt shops later this month! Don’t worry, there will be lots of projects and patterns to share so stay tuned here too.
One more project in the works behind the scenes (yes, there is A LOT going on right now) uses these Riley Blake wool solids. I’ve loved working with wools for years. It’s such a soothing textiles to work with – especially for hand work projects. And I love these colors.
I’m also using this fun device! I’m going to be reviewing a new Cricut Maker cutting machine. I’ve had so much fun playing with this machine and trying out some of the many fun things it can do. Including cut non-bonded fabric – that means regular quilting cottons without anything to stabilize it like Heat N Bond! It’s pretty amazing and some really cool quilting-related possibilities are in the works!

I’m kind of excited to see what you do with the cricut maker. I got one for Christmas and I’m not using it to it’s full potential yet. I love your new collection!
