I recently pulled out my Liberty Stars paper-piecing project to add a few more rows of stars. I started this project in 2014 during our special stay in England as a family. All of the stars are pieced with beautiful Liberty Lawn fabric.
Here's how it's grown so far. I love the way Liberty Lawns play together - lots of different colors and prints and styles, but somehow they just work together.
Since all of this is hand-pieced, this is going to me my eternal project. And I'm totally fine with that! Hand work with lawns is just so soothing and gorgeous.
What makes Liberty Lawns So Special?
For now, back to the fabric. First of all, what makes Liberty of London lawns so special? Well, this post will tell you more about Liberty Lawns, including their history, as well as some handy tips for sewing with them.
You can find the tutorial for this beautiful Liberty hexagon pillow and pincushion here.

Where to Find Liberty of London Tana Lawns
These beautiful fabrics are more expensive that most quilting cottons, but the great thing is: a little bit goes a long way. I'll be honest, a Fat ⅛th or Fat 16th can go a long way. AND you don't have to go all the way to London to find them.
I gradually built up my Liberty collection with a few monthly subscription clubs, including the Liberty Love club from Amite Textiles. This is a monthly subscription where you can get a little bundle of 10 different Liberty prints in the mail every month.
Aren't they so pretty all together?
Here are some of my favorite sources for Liberty Lawns:
In the US: Duckadilly offers an amazing selection of curated bundles in F8th or FQ's OR in gorgeous die cut shapes and precut Jelly Rolls! It's a great way to get a variety of Liberty prints for a good price.
In Australia: Amite Textiles has a great selection. Amite also has a subscription Liberty Lovers club with 6 mailouts a year. It's a great way to build a stash of Liberty- and prices are good even for international orders.

I LOVED this bog post! Your stars are so very pretty and I like the idea of a fabric club. How fun it must be to receive a beautiful batch of fabric each month. Confession - I just signed up so that I can also receive these fabrics!

Gorgeous gorgeous! I got to travel to London 3 times last year as my husband was going for work. Went to the Liberty store each time- haven’t made anything yet with my purchases. Just keep collecting inspiration. Love the little pincushion!

Where could I find the Liberty Stars Pattern, I really I really like the quilt?
Amy
It's just English Paper Piecing templates. I used the 2" Hexagons and 2" 60 degree diamonds from https://www.paperpieces.com/
There's a great introduction to english paper piecing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN7dZJ-R4E8
Once you have the templates you can make any design you want!

Hi Amy- can you please direct me to the pattern for the little heart pincushion shown with the liberty heart pillow? I read the tutorial about the pillow but didn’t find the pincushion. Thanks!!!
Amy
It is the same method as this heart pillow, https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2018/01/liberty-hexagon-heart-pillow-tutorial.html just cut a smaller heart shape to make it pincushion size. 🙂

So pretty. You should have visited Shaukat whilst you were in London.

I didn't make it this time, but I have been to Shaukat! I went when I was there 4 years ago. https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2014/09/fabric-shopping-in-london.html
Yes, a great place for buying Liberty. They'll cut half meters and they had a bag of Liberty scraps! (At least they did last time I went.)
Thanks for the reminder!

Hi Amy - I'm making a star quilt similar to yours only mine has a hexie center.. I am also hand piecing and am looking for ideas on how to hand the edges.. I don't think I like the idea of partial stars and then the border and top and bottoms finish differently than the sides.. it just make me more confused on how to handle finishing... thanks for any info/ideas..
