Birthday Bash at Missouri Star Quilt Company

Last week I got to participate in the 11th anniversary Birthday Bash event for Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton, Missouri. It was quite the experience!

If you’re not familiar with Missouri Star Quilt Company, you can read their inspiring story here.

It was crazy fun to get to participate in all of the events of the weekend, including getting to share the stage with Jenny Doan and my fellow Riley Blake designers, Sue Daley and Melanie Colette,  in a sew-off against Moda All-Stars Barb and Mary of Me & My Sisters Designs.

We also faced off against these two in a fabric “Cake” decorating contest to raise money for the local Caldwell County Food Pantry.

I created a short video to give you a feel for the town of Hamilton, the Birthday events, and the Missouri Star Quilt Company experience.

The whole Missouri Star Shop experience consists of 11 shops, multiple restaurants, and a sewing retreat center.

Check out this post from my first visit to Hamilton for a tour of the Missouri Quilt Company shops in the restored shop fronts along Main Street of Hamilton, Missouri.

Probably one of the coolest parts was seeing fabric with my own name on it on the MSQC shop shelves!!

It was my first time seeing the Sugarhouse Park collection precuts in person. Yay!

And don’t worry if you missed the MSQC fun in person – I also had the chance to film a fun little tutorial featuring Sugarhouse Park with Misty Doan for the Missouri Star YouTube channel! Stay tuned for that. I’ll be sure to share as soon as it’s ready.

It was pretty amazing to meet quilters from all over the country who made their way to the little town of Hamilton for this fabricpalooza event.

Thanks so much for having me, Missouri Star!

I LOVE Missouri Star Quilt Company, the vision they brought to my home state of Missouri, and what they have done and continue to do for the small town of Hamilton and for quilters everywhere! Locating in a Midwestern town that had fallen on hard times, giving it new life, making quilting seem so doable and quality fabric so accessible to everyone — it just all epitomizes what I think is best about America. I know …. quilts = America, right? But for me, it does. Since the days of feedsacks becoming the most readily available fabric to how quilting groups sew up a community …. it’s all just perfect and so very right. MSQC has reinforced that, even reintroduced that into our culture. I love them and am so proud to know that “Missouri” is in the middle of it (and that they are in the middle of my beloved Missouri!) I love seeing your sweet face in the middle of all I love best about quilting! I was there a few weeks ago and saw your earlier fabrics on their shelves — yay to having Sugarhouse Park there now, too !
