I’ve had a new quilt pattern in the works and I’m so excited to release it today! (You may remember the sneak peek of this pattern at my Quilt Market booth in May.) I’m happy to announce that it’s finally here! This pattern is called Sugarhouse Star and it’s a modern, graphic take on a very traditional quilt-star motif.
This quilt finishes at 78″ x 78″. It’s perfect for using 10″x 10″ pre-cut squares or you can cut your pieces from an assortment of 1/6th yards.
I love the “organized” scrappy look of this one – using a variety of prints gives the quilt some visual depth and texture, but organizing the scraps by color families balances that with some cohesive order.
This version of the quilt is made with my upcoming fabric collection, Sugarhouse Park for Riley Blake Designs that will be arriving in stores in the next month!

Here’s another variation of this quilt using a darker color palette. I love how the simple graphic design works well in any color scheme. I’m thinking I want to try another variation in a two-tone palette. Maybe whites and grays? Wouldn’t that look awesome?
This quilt comes together deceptively fast. It would make a great gift for a friend or visual statement on a wall or bed top.
(While not included in the pattern instructions, it would be easy to make this into a King size quilt by adding a 14″ drop border on all four sides OR two borders at 5″ and 9″ to create the same 14″ drop border. If you are interested in fabric requirements for those drop borders, leave a comment and I’ll add it to the post.)
Also, get ready for the Pine Hollow Patchwork Forest Quilt Along!
Come back here Wednesday, September 25 (note updated start date) for all of the details including the schedule, fabric tips, and demos. We’ll break up the construction into bite size chunks with tips along the way. Especially because we are planning to wrap up and finish by mid – October. Plenty of time to have your quilt ready for the holidays!
