Brand new quilt pattern: Sugarhouse Star

I’ve had a new quilt pattern in the works and I’m so excited to release it today! (You may remember the sneak peek of this pattern at my Quilt Market booth in May.) I’m happy to announce that it’s finally here! This pattern is called Sugarhouse Star and it’s a modern, graphic take on a very traditional quilt-star motif.

I love the “organized” scrappy look of this one – using a variety of prints gives the quilt some visual depth and texture, but organizing the scraps by color families balances that with some cohesive order.

This version of the quilt is made with my upcoming fabric collection, Sugarhouse Park for Riley Blake Designs that will be arriving in stores in the next month!

Kits are available for Sugarhouse Star here.

Here’s another variation of this quilt using a darker color palette. I love how the simple graphic design works well in any color scheme. I’m thinking I want to try another variation in a two-tone palette. Maybe whites and grays? Wouldn’t that look awesome?

This quilt comes together deceptively fast. It would make a great gift for a friend or visual statement on a wall or bed top.

While not included in the pattern instructions, it would be easy to make this into a King size quilt by adding a 14″ drop border on all four sides made up of two borders at 5″ and 9″.

King instructions:

  • 1st border – 1 1/4 yards fabric cut into 8 strips 5 1/2″ x Width of Fabric (WOF)
  • 2nd border – 3 yards cut into 4 vertical strips 9 1/2″ wide by length of fabric
  • Binding – 1 yard cut into 11 strips 2 1/2″ x WOF OR 445″ of continuous bias binding
  • Backing – 9 3/8 yards – cut into 3 equal pieces of 3 1/8 yards (112 1/2″) – trim selvage edges and sew three pieces together side by side.

Love this new pattern Amy!! And I am particularly drawn to the darker palette version! I am already thinking of how great this would be in Christmas colors, or in the rich harvest colors of fall or Thanksgiving….
    Thanks for another great pattern!

I just bought the pattern and would love the king size fabric border requirements. It was so fun to see your trunk show at Thanksgiving Point this morning!

I purchased the Sugarhouse Star pattern at Thanksgiving Point after listening to your delightful lecture. Thank you! I’d love to make it up in king size for myself (Can we do that?!) if you’d share the additional fabric requirements.

Also looking forward to the Pine Hollow quilt along as I bought that pattern as well. And I absolutely understand the need for a week to breathe! Thanks for all your hard work.
