As gift giving season is upon use, I’m so excited that Elizabeth Chappell is generously sharing these free printable Gift Tags and Quilt Care Instructions to include with our quilty gifts! If you haven’t met Elizabeth, let me introduce you!
Quilt Care Instructions
Hello quilting friends! My name is Elizabeth Chappell, and I am the face behind Quilters Candy, formerly Quilters Candy Box. I am a quilt pattern designer and the host of the Quilters Candy Membership.
I’m excited to be a guest on Amy’s blog and share something with y’all that I love!
Since it’s getting close to the holiday season, and gift giving is near, I wanted to share something to personalize your gift giving. Now if you are giving a QUILT that you handmade, it’s hard to make it more personal than that. But there is something you can add to make the presentation extra fun. Let me share what I mean.
Gift wrapping a quilt doesn’t need to be fancy. Here is one of my Quilts ready to be gifted with a Quilt Care card. Just roll your quilt, tie with string, and insert a Quilt Care Card.
Quilt Care cards are not only cute, but practical. Most people use blankets, and aren’t aware that quilts need a little more TLC, especially when it comes to washing them. A Quilt Care card acts as a way of letting people know how to wash their quilt, a cute way to present the gift, AND a place to write a personalized message on the back.
If you are looking for a quilt to make for someone, you can look for some pattern ideas here.

What if you’re not giving a quilt? That’s okay. I’ve got you covered! I created some gift tags that will brighten up any wrapped present and add a little extra detail. No matter what you give to someone, a cute gift tag adds the perfect touch.
You can print these gift tags on card stock, cut them out, and attach them to your gifts. I love to punch a hole at the top and tie a string through the card. But tape works just as well!

I would love to hear what gifts you plan to make or give this holiday season. Who knows, maybe your idea will spark someone else to do the same thing!
Whatever gifts you are giving, or whether you’re giving a quilt this holiday season or any time during the years ahead, I hope you enjoy these gift tags and the Quilt Care Card.
Thanks so much, Elizabeth! That Quilt Care Card is not only cute, but so helpful – especially if you’re someone like me who forgets to prepare any care instructions ahead of time when I’m gifting a quilt. Now I have a go-to printable card to make things quick and easy.

Thank you for the free printable. You asked what we’re making for the holidays – I decided at the first of the year to make quilts for people I loved instead of waiting for occasions (weddings, babies, etc.) so I got out my overflowing Christmas fabric bin and made Christmas quilts for my three college friends (we graduated in 1984). We’re getting together in two weeks so I’ll gift them then. I had enough fabric to make one for my niece who’s getting married in December and two baby quilts. It’s been a fun process.

What a great way to present a quilt. Thanks!

Great idea. I’d like to suggest a wash temp of medium and include color catchers just in case, even though I prewash all fabrics. Perhaps dry on medium temp also? Love the labels!

Machine wash on gentle in cold water??

These care and gift tags are so sweet. Thank you for sharing Elizabeth – and Amy! I’ve been busy making Christmas quilts for family members – and this is just perfect for adding to those quilt gifts.

Thanks for sharing the quilt care sheet. I write it on a card, yours is so much cuter.

On my quilt labels I put who they were made for, who made them, the date and the care instructions. I print it out on special fabric pages that can go through the printer. The label is then ironed (I usually sew it on too) on to a corner on the back of the quilt before it is quilted. The recipients will always know how the quilts should be washed.

What a great label!

I thought you were not supposed to put quilts in a dryer. Do you use ‘no heat’ setting? Thank you. I really enjoy your projects and tips.
Amy
Depends on the quilt. I do put most of the quilt I make in the dryer on a low-heat setting. I wouldn’t put an antique or heavily appliqued quilt in the dryer though.

I was delighted to see the cute printable tags and so disappointed the site to download wasn’t available. Any suggestions? relatively new to quilting and with so much to learn, I enjoy your site.
Amy
Thank you so much for the heads up! I wasn’t aware they weren’t accessible any more. I just updated the links to download both printables.
Thanks again!

Here in Australia, we don’t use the clothes dryer as much as some other countries. So as far as I’m aware, mostly we air dry them – I know I do. Warm wash (with colour catchers especially for the first wash) and air dry.
