Hooray! We did it! We made it to the grand finale week of the Pine Hollow Patchwork Forest Quilt Along! And in plenty of time to finish before Christmas too! I have loved watching so many of you stitch along with me on this Christmas quilt and hopefully you’ve had fun too.
Pine Hollow Christmas Quilt Along, the Grand Finale!
I’m so pleased by the fact that so many of you have finished your Christmas quilt top. And look at us! With plenty of time ahead of the holidays too. I’m feeling pretty proud.
If this quilt is all new to you, you can find the quilt pattern here: Pine Hollow Patchwork Forest Pattern.
If you’d like to see the tips and tricks I shared for this Christmas quilt pattern you can find them here:

I just got my Christmas quilt back from Melissa at Sew Shabby Quilting – she machine quilted it for me with the Marbled Cake edge to edge pattern. I love the way the simplicity of the design creates nice texture across what is a somewhat busy quilt design.
I was determined to finish mine off with fabric only from my stash. I found this tonal red and white stripe which tied together the various shades of red nicely. I cut it on the bias because who can resist a good bias stripe?
I think it finishes off the Christmas quilt nicely. I frantically bound the quilt yesterday afternoon so I could get outside to shoot pictures before the daylight was gone. (Because, man, it is gone early these days!) I think I’ll probably take it out for a good winter photo shoot at some point when we get some snow, but for now, I’m excited it’s done!
I’ve actually made three of these Christmas quilts in the past 6 months! (You can see more of the other two versions here.) That is super rare for me. Usually I’m a one-and-done-and-ready-to-move-on-to-the-next-thing type of girl. But this quilt comes together so fast and is so fun for playing with colors and fabric combinations that I can truthfully say I enjoyed each one AND I think I could make another next week, if I needed to!
So if you’re looking for a quick Christmas quilt, I really think that this is one that you could finish before the season. For real!

he he he…didn’t mean to post twice. I had some technical difficulties and didn’t think the first one posted. Besides, I’m just so darn excited!!

I love the reds and creams! How will you keep the reds from bleeding? I encountered that issue once (it took 8 overnight soakings to get the red out of the light colors), and I’m a little reluctant to try a red/light color quilt again. (Oh, and the red fabric was a quilt-shop quality fabric, too). Any recommendations??

Hello Amy: I am finally finishing up my blocks from this QAL and am confused about the layout. Were there any tips shared during the quilt along that you could share? I love it. There is definitely a learning curve in making the trees but once I figured it out they were so fun to make. I’m hoping to finish it up this weekend if I can figure out the layout correctly. I have not sewed any blocks together yet. Sorry if this is a silly question, the little block by B and C

Hi Trish! That is a great question. Inserting that little tree block can feel intimidating, but it’s really simple when you learn the trick for inset seams. This post will help give you a visual for how the inserting the offset block works: https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2013/05/inset-seams-tutorial.html

Hi Amy, I just purchased this pattern, love it! I like it best in the red, pink and white. Can you tell me what you used in your quilt? Thanks.
Amy
I used a lot of prints from my stash over the years as well as Riley Blake Basics (Red Blossoms, dots, and X’s on white) as well as Bonnie and Camille red/pink wovens. (I’ve seen some still available here: https://loulousfabricshop.com/search?type=product&q=bonnie+and+camille+woven)

Any chance you want to sell that beautiful pink Christmas tree quilt?
