A new book: A Piece of Cake

Published: Aug 29, 2017 by Amy Smart · This post may contain affiliate links · 8 Comments

Do you know Peta Peace? If not, then I highly recommend you get to know her. She is a pure gem. You can get to know Peta on her blog She Quilt's A Lot. And when Peta asked if I'd like to review her new book, A Piece of Cake*, I was delighted to say yes, because I know what a creative person Peta is, and I couldn't wait to see all that would be in her book!

The premise of A Piece of Cake* is 14 quilt patterns based on using pre-cut 10" x 10" squares. (I love precuts because you can get an awesome variety of fabric prints, without having to buy a lot of yardage!)

I've seen lots of patterns based on pre-cuts, but I feel like Peta has some fun, new inspiration for putting those precut squares to work. Here are a few of my favorites. This fun quilt is called Modern Spools - I love this fresh take on spool quilts. And it's such a good design for showing-off big novelty prints.

I think this is my favorite quilt in the book, called a Square Peg in a Round Hole. I'm a sucker for cross quilts and I love this fresh way to approach one, adding the circle element.

This take on a classic pinwheel block is called, Spin.

And it is also the block I chose to play with!

I've been looking for just the right project for this bundle of Blue Carolina, Christopher Thompson (aka The Tattooed Quilter)'s debut fabric collection.

Here are my growing blocks. I love the way the different fabric combinations subtly change each block. I'm excited to pull  more of these together in this classic, blue palette.
