April Quilt Block Patterns – Riley Blake Challenge

    April 20, 2022 by Amy 4 Comments

Catching up on making and sharing the 3 different April quilt blocks for the 2022 Riley Blake Quilt Block Challenge.

This month there were three new blocks released. Check below for links to each block pattern.

Block #11 is called Pop Star and is designed by Heather Peterson of Anka’s Treasures. I think this might be my favorite block so far – and one that would be a lot of fun to make a whole quilt’s worth!

You can find the free quilt block pattern for Pop Star here.

Block #12 is called Argyle Square by Melanie Collette of Hello Melly Designs. Now that I’m looking at this block through a photo, I’m thinking I need to rotate by quarter-square triangle blocks.

You can find the free pattern for the Argyle Square block here.

And this week lucky Block #13 was released. This one is called Double Cross and designed by Sue Daley.  If you look at the block pattern you may notice mine is slightly different – part intentional, partly un-intentional. I intentionally decided to make the outside strips to match the white background. But I didn’t realized I’d pieced the points of the cross backwards. I thought about fixing them as I like how they look in the block design, but decided I’m okay with the block as it is, so will leave it.

Did you know you can make design changes to the blocks that you make? You can as YOU are the boss of your own quilt. Plus I think it’s fun to see variations in a quilt along.

You can find the free pattern for Block #13 – Double Cross here.

Here are all 13 of my 2022 Quilt Block Challenge blocks so far. You can find the printable block instructions for all 13 blocks here.

The fabrics I’m using prints from Liberty of London quilter’s cottons from the Flower Show Midsummer and Midnight Garden collections mixed with Riley Blake’s Confetti Cotton solids. I’m using Confetti Cloud as for the white background.

If you’ve missed my earlier blocks you can see January’s blocks 1-3 here and the first block of February (Block #4) here, Blocks 5-6 here, Blocks 7 & 8 here, and Blocks 9 & 10 here.

Only one more month of blocks to go! There will be a new block released on the first three Tuesdays in May, so you’ve got a good week+ to catch up before a new one comes out.

On May 17 Riley Blake will release the full sampler quilt pattern layout as well!

I actually prefer your version of Block 13 and think I’ll make the same “mistake” when I make mine….lol…I’m still playing catch-up. This was a wonderful post!
