There are times around here that I am working on a project behind the scenes that I am not at liberty to share until it is published first in another place. In this case, I was working on a fun project back in June and I'm excited to share that I have a Dresden Flower Mini Quilt pattern in the latest issue of Missouri Star Quilt Company's Block Magazine! (2022 Issue 4)
The folks at Missouri Star asked me to create a small project featuring their Dresden Ruler.
So I chose to make flower blocks inspired Here's a progress shot of one of the projects I made last summer to be submitted to the magazine. These flowers are inspired by my sunflowers still hanging on at the end of the summer as the season transitions into fall,
These blocks are made using the Dresden wedge ruler. If you've never made a Dresden quilt block before, you are in a for a fun treat at how deceptively easy they are - and how beautifully they come together!
I made a couple of different variations using the same block and coordinating fabric. One is a mini quilt and the other is a 20" x 20" pillow. You can find the complete pattern and instructions in the latest issue - 2022 Issue 4 of Block Magazine.
The fabric for these projects is from the brand new Daisy Fields collection by Bev McCullough for Riley Blake Designs. Daisy Fields is available from the Fat Quarter Shop or lots of shops on ETSY.
The coordinating solid blue fabric is Riley Blake's Confetti Cotton in Dream. (It's the same fabric I used for this blue and white quilt.)
I machine quilted both projects with the Summer Honey Bee stitching design that came with the Clear Blue Tiles machine quilting system. Those honeybees look so perfect buzzing around the flowers. 🙂
I also feel extremely honored that Missouri Star also featured and interview with me in this issue! How fun is that?
And even more fun, just this weekend I've been participating in the 2022 Garden of Quilts event (more to come on that) and Jenny Doan was there as well! AND I got to get my picture with her and the magazine. It's all a little bit meta, but seriously so cool.
Also, I've had more than one person reach out and say something along the lines of, "I didn't know you were that famous of a quilter, but I saw you in Missouri Star, so you must be." Haha!
Thanks so much for the opportunity and the credibility, Missouri Star! 😉

The MS Dresden ruler says it’s an 18 degree angle. Why does your flower have 22 wedges?

Hi Amy, Congratulations on being in BLOCK magazine- both you and Jenny have been my inspirations. I just start quilting at 69 years old after a bout with cancer. I am in great health and am so passionate about quilting-I want to quit my full time job and quilt all the time- because of ladies like you. I have all of your Notting Hill Fabric and will be making bags and plows-in fact I just ordered more. I adore the Turquoise Cabbage Rose and the Blue and white London landmarks.
Previously I have not been fond of Dresdens but I love your take on them. I just ordered the fabric and will be making the pillow with the solid background as a birthday present for a dear friend.. The specific solid blue fabric wasn't listed and I was wondering if you could provide that information.
Thanks and I will be following you. Cheers, Nancy Morgan
