Lots of fun stuff going on around here today! As you probably already know (because I can't stop talking about it) my new book Fabulously Fast Quilts came out earlier this month. Fabulously Fast Quilts is available on Amazon, the Martingale shop (where you can get an ebook version for free with your purchase of the hard copy) and if you'd like a signed copy from yours truly, you can order one through my shop.
Clearly, I really like to make quilts. But, like most of you, my time is limited because of 4 kids, responsibilities at church, schools, writing and maintaining a blog, yard, a dishwasher that constantly needs unloading, etc, etc. Also, I have a short attention span. I'm always itching to start a new project. I'm pretty good at finishing my quilts, (well, most of the time) but that could have to do with the fact that I don't typically make a lot of really complex quilts. Or at least I like if they look complex, but in reality they are fast. There are so many great short-cuts when it comes to quilting and I like to use as many of them as possible to speed up the entire process.
And hence, the idea for this book was born. A collection of 12 patterns - many that are pre-cut friendly -using quilting short cuts to help you create a gift quickly. Some of these patterns are definitely faster than others, but all use techniques to help you save time. Some patterns are inspired by traditional designs and methods, and others are hopefully something new entirely. I want this to be a good resource for finding a selection of quick go-to quilt designs.

That barn is divine!

I'm looking forward to the next Quilt Along instructions! I think I've picked a great bundle of fabric to use for it!! Will have to get some pictures to share in the flickr group :)

Jo

Your book would suit my style perfectly!!! I hand quilt which takes a looking time so I like to put a quilt together that is quick but not complicated. Looking forward to checking out the tips from the other quilters.

Wonderful!!! I love fast because I tend to get bored rather quickly, even with beautiful fabric.xx

Great idea behind the book, and I might have hyperventilated a bit at that barn/ladder combo too!
Anne
Congrats on the new book. Looks wonderful. I know exactly what you mean about wanting fast quilts. I have too many new ideas to spend very much time on any one quilt.

This is a great book....got my copy from Amy last week....I've already earmarked the modern buzzsaw, roundabout, fast four patch and moroccan tile and have fabric ideas too!

What is great about this book IS the ease of the quilt, yes, but they also look great and sometimes there is just a fabric you want to play with but not have some hugely intricate design but something fast but

LOVING my signed copy of your book, Amy. I was one of the many that asked for instructions for the "Countdown to Christmas" quilt so of course, it's the first one I'm making. Holy moly that turquoise barn is ah-mazing!!!! And a super cool ladder to boot!! Lucky find!!

Hi Amy, This looks like a incredible book. I can't wait to see it, and hopefully order a copy for our library.
On a personal note, just curious, how many of the patterns are paper pieced? Good luck and congratulations!! [email protected]
amy smart
Thanks so much for your nice note! None of these patterns are paper pieced. All traditional piecing. I hope that's good news? If you are looking for paper pieced patterns I have some good recommendations!
annieb
Wonderful news. I'm not a good paper-piecer, because I am slightly dyslexic and left-handed. During my 20 years of quilting, that is my only weakness, and something I just don't enjoy.
But I love everything else about sewing and quilting. Some other good news - one of the libraries in our system has purchased your book. It hasn't been cataloged yet, but you can bet I will be

I love your blog and your quilts. You are so talented because you make everything easy to understand. As a dyslexic person, I don't like to read a lot, however I look forward to updates to your blog.
Thank you
