Perfect Quilter's Gift Guide 2025

It's that time of year for Gift Guides and Idea Lists. Which, frankly, I love because I struggle coming up with new ideas for gifts for some of the people I love. But when it comes to quilting, I've got ideas galore. So if you've got a quilter in your life, or you just need ideas for your own letter to Santa, I've got you! I put together a list of a few new things that I've bought, loved and recommend as great gift options for the holidays of 2025.

I also updated my mammoth list Gifts for Quilters and People who Love to Sew. You can find the full list here including lots of notions, tools, and quilting-themed novelty gifts. But if that list feels a little overwhelming, here's a short list of a just a few new things to spark some inspiration.

Tools and Notions for Your Sewing Room

If you or someone you know is in need of an update to their cutting tools, Missouri Star Quilt Company released a new line of cutting tools including scissors and rotary cutters that are high quality and a great price point.

The Large (8") scissors have a soft grip, non-slip handle, a nice weight and are super sharp. I also love the 6" snippers - they have a really fine point and sharp blades. They're perfect for keeping next to your machine for a quick snip or even for unpicking if your seam ripper isn't close by.

The new Missouri Star Rotary Cutters are available in 60mm, 45mm and 28 mm sizes. These cutters have a smooth, ball-bearing mechanism that helps reduce hand and shoulder fatigue it glides through layers of fabric. II love how they glide through cutting without lots of pressure and the ergonomic grip feels sturdy without feeling bulky.

One last little tool from Missouri Star is this mini rotary cutter. I wouldn't use it for heavy-duty rotary cutting, but it is perfect for taking with me on the road in my EPP handwork pouch so I can cut shapes on the go! I even took it on an airplane with no problems. (I also keep a mini cutting mat in my sewing-on-the-go supplies.)

The Best Quilting Gift I Received Last Year

Okay, you are probably going to laugh at this one - my family loves to - but this is honestly my favorite gift from last year. My Dad has a pair of light-up magnifying glasses that he LOVES. He was so proud to give me my own pair. I chuckled when I saw them and then I started using them. OH. MY. GOSH. They have changed my life!

I use them when I'm watching TV in the evening with my husband and family, a time I love to do handwork. They like to have the lights off and I've experimented with other portable lights, but everything I've tried has been slightly awkward. Wearing these puppies I can see more clearly with light AND magnification.

The greatest part is that I can wear them over my regular glasses that I need to see distances clearly (as in: the TV) creating my own set of bifocals where I can watch TV and do handwork at the same time. I look like a freakshow - and my family loves to tease me - but I am one happy stitcher! You can find a variety of Light-up Magnifying glasses here.

Hands-Free Metal Pattern Holder

Here is another new product that I didn't know I needed. This is the Denim Bee's Knees Metal Book Stand by Lori Holt from the Fat Quarter Shop. It is a sturdy, magnetic metal stand that keeps your quilting books, patterns, or tablet propped up at a comfortable angle while you sew. I LOVE it because it's keeps my sewing table better organized and the patterns I'm working on more visible. I also use it to hold up my phone for watching content or just keeping it from getting lost in the clutter. 😉

The Fat Quarter Shop has a similar cream-colored metal board for keeping your cross-stitch patterns easily accessible.

The blue stands folds flat when you're done, so it's easy to tuck next to your cutting table or take along to retreats. It's also a great place for displaying and using cute metal needle minders for keeping your pattern pages open and accessible. When the Fat Quarter Shop sent me one to try my first reaction was I didn't know if I really needed it. Now I can't live without it.

Quilting-Themed Gifts

Sewing/quilting-themed mugs and tumblers are always a useful and fun gift. The Fat Quarter Shop has a fun variety of both options. I also love the sewing-themed mug selection from Maker Valley.

Quilting-Themed Puzzles

If Quilting and Puzzles overlap in your venn diagram of favorite things, a Quilting themed puzzle is a fun gift to give or receive.

My Favorite Sewing Room Cleaning Tool

One of my favorite tools in my sewing room is my handheld rechargeable vacuum. My sewing room gets so dusty - I honestly use it every day. (I love having it always within reach and not having to pull out my big vacuum.) Sadly, the one that I have is no longer made, so I did a little research to find a replacement I could recommend. This looks like a great option for a handheld, rechargeable, cordless vacuum.

The Fat Quarter Shop has this nifty little Mini Vaccuum and I bought one so that I could try it out. I was genuinely impressed! I opened a set of precuts (which immediately covered my cutting mat with a fresh bunch of lint - and that little vacuum sucked everything up so well. It's little, so it's not something you'd want to use on more than dust, thread, or lint, but it's perfect for taking care of those things and a great price point!

Favorite Books of 2025

A few favorite new books of 2025 (plus another good one):

Lone Star Legacy Quilts by Lindlee Smith is one of my favorite new books of this year. One of her Lone Star quilt designs is on my bucket list for 2026. (You can read more about it here.)

Jen Kingwell's new book: Gathered-Quilt Recipes 2 was published this year and is another beauty. It's taking a little longer than hoped to get to North America, but hopefully will be available by December!

Perfect Quilting Book for Beginners: The above books are for intermediate-level quilting. If you're looking for a perfect introduction to quilting for someone who is new, check out The Quilting Book: A Step-By-Step Guide to Patchwork and Quilting. I've heard so many good things about this book and it's been a runaway bestseller in 2025.

Finally, you can never go wrong with a book from Lori Holt published by It's Sew Emma. Honestly, I think they're the best 'bang-for-your-buck' quilt pattern books there are with SO many quilts and project options per book plus excellent instructions.

Vintage-inspired Gift for Quilt-loving Friends

"Love You to Pieces: A Gift of Friendship" by Amy Barickman is a sweet little keepsake book that celebrates friendship through vintage quilts, heirloom fabric dolls, and heartfelt thoughts. This is a sweet pick for a quilt-y best friend, or anyone who loves vintage patchwork and the stories stitched into handmade things.

The Ultimate Customizable Quilter's Planner

Sewing Machines

A friend who teaches sewing classes at a community college uses and recommends these machines for their beginning students.
