Pattern Now Available: Quarter Star Quilt

Last Modified: August 17, 2024 by Amy · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 19 Comments

Last year I released a new quilt pattern, The Quarter Star Quilt, as part of an exclusive box as the featured artist in the Designer Series collaboration with My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe. This year the pattern is now available on it's own!

Quarter Star quilt pattern designed by Amy Smart made with Liberty quilting cottons.

The quilt finishes at 72" x 72" - it's a great throw-size quilt or perfect for a wall hanging if you've got a large wall where you like to hang seasonal quilts.

The pattern is Fat Quarter-friendly and the construction has some awesome shortcuts to help you make your blocks - especially all of those half square triangles - come together so quickly!

The Quarter Star Quilt pattern is now available in my shop in both Paper and PDF (Digital Download) options.

And right now, the Quarter-Star Quilt is available HERE as the pattern of the week! Marked down from $10.99 to $7.99 it's a great time to get this pattern for your library.

I'm currently working on a Christmas version of this quilt using the latest Merry Little Christmas collection from Riley Blake Designs. I'm excited to have this quilt in a different look!

(This is my second quilt made with the Liberty Parks collection - here's the first. You can see I'm a bit of a fan. 😉 )

I filmed a video tutorial with Kris from My Girlfriend's to walk you through the steps for making this quilt. There's also a great intro into the history of what make Liberty prints so classic and iconic.

The quilting pantograph on this quilt is called Flutter by Sew Shabby Quilting.

    Free Bonus Pillow Project

And for a quick bonus project - you will have some half-square-triangles left over - perfect for making a coordinating throw pillow!

I quilted the pillow top with a layer of batting and then used this method for adding a back and finished binding edge to the quilt.

LOVE the pattern and am curious if it is/will be available separately from the kit?

Hello Amy, I love your patterns, they are very clear and easy to understand. I watched the video for this new pattern and wanted to purchase it. There are no kits at that website, the link is broken. Can this site sell your pattern without the fabric? For me personally, I am not a Liberty fan. I have some beautiful fat quarters that just arrived in the mail and was hoping to use my fabric with your pattern.

Oh! Thanks so much for the heads up - they may be sold out. I just reached out to My Girlfriends and will find out if it is possible to sell the pattern separately now. I will get back to you as soon as I hear back! 🙂

I've always liked your hair (you have great hair) but I love the longer length! That is one of the prettiest patterns I've seen in a long time, and I love it in those fabrics. Great video!

HI Belinda! Thank you. You can find the quilt kit at My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe: https://mygirlfriendsquiltshoppe.com/collections/kits/products/my-girlfriends-quilt-shoppe-designer-series-star-quilt-w-amy-smart?ref=mAwpNSH2PhqKtf

I LOVE, love, love this quilt, but would you rate this as a more difficult pattern? It sure looks more complicated with the tiny squares in the middle. I only have a small amount of quilting experience - and although I have a go cutter, I have limited other tools. Can a novice do this quilt? Also, do we need the kit plus the finishing kit? Or all 3 kits? Thank you!!

Hi Genna! Thank you so much! I think an experienced beginner would do fine with this quilt - especially with the tips in the video guide. The box kit only includes the Fat Quarters and the pattern. The finishing kits are optional based on your preferences. You can buy your own white background yardage, binding, and/or backing fabric - or buy the kits directly from My Girlfriends.

I am attending the Houston International Quilt Festival and wanted to see your booth. However, I don’t see Diary of a Quilter. Are you listed differently? Or can you just tell me your booth number?

Unfortunately I'm not at Quilt Festival. My booth was at International Quilt Market (trade show for retailers) last week. One day I'll get to Festival! Thanks so much for your interest!

Beautiful pattern and quilt! If I want to create the half square triangles the old fashioned two-at-a-time method, will there be enough material in the kit to cut squares a little larger before sewing and trimming? I assume the pattern is still not available separately???

Thank you! Yes, technically that is the method used for making these HST's. But there is extra fabric if you want to cut larger squares. And yes, the pattern is exclusive to the kit. 🙂

Such a pretty quilt. I would also be interested in purchasing the pattern separately when it becomes available.

No, this one is a one-size quilt. I'd like to update the pattern with multiple sizes at some point.

I have never quilted but I'm trying to teach myself to sew and I'm taking some classes at the local library. I just love your patterns, they are beautiful. My auntie quilted and gave my husband and I a bedroom set, so gorgeous. We adore the set. My question is can any of your patterns be sewn instead of quilted? If so, will I need more material, same or less. Thanks for the wonderful things you do.
