You may remember these blocks I was working on this past fall. Well I'm finally sharing the finished quilt and it's one of my favorite finishes of 2024. It was made for a special niece and was delivered in November. This quilt was so fun to make and perfect for using up scraps. I had so much fun digging through my scrap bins for the perfect pieces.

As I mentioned, this quilt was made for an adorable niece who has been waiting patiently for 2 years for her promised quilt from Aunt Amy. Fortunately she is very forgiving. (Or oblivious. Probably a little bit of both. 😉) Here's a look at the finished outcome:

The pastel color palette was inspired by this scrap quilt made by Emily Dennis last year. This little niece of mine loves pink, so I kept that the dominant color, but it was fun to throw in a few more pastels as well.
For this quilt I used the 6" Woven Star paper-piecing block from the Fat Quarter Shop. These blocks are made using foundation-paper-piecing technique. The papers come in a pack of 42 sheets.
If you're interested in learning more about Foundation Paper Piecing, check out this Intro to Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) tutorial here.

I made 25 of the 6" x 6" blocks (6 ½" x 6 ½" unfinished) and then off-set them with 6 ½" x 6 ½" squares cut from a variety of low volume prints. I used a lot of prints from the last 2 Hush Hush LV collections from Riley Blake as well as pieces from my stash.

I alternated the finished Woven Stars blocks with the plain blocks for an easy quilt layout and assembly.

I think in a way it was providential to wait to make this quilt as more of her personality and preferences (i.e. pink) have emerged and I could tailor more to what I thought she'd like.
I loved choosing whimsical prints from the Low Volume prints as well as my scraps to make this quilt an unofficial I-spy quilt too.

In addition, I made a mini quilt for "piggy" using the 4" x 4" Woven Star papers.

You can see more about how I quilted this mini on my own machine using a serpentine stitch here.
Both quilts are backed with a rainbow flanel print from the Make A Pretty Life collection to make them extra cozy.

As I mentioned, we got to deliver these quilts in person visiting family in New Hampshire in November. We lucked out with beautiful weather while we were there - including an unseasonably warm couple of days.

We even got to visit the beach one evening watching an amazing sunset. Naturally we took the quilt with us for a photo op and my sweet mother-in-law was excited about having another turn being the official quilt holder. 🙂

Didn't she do a fantastic job? She's a natural.
So three cheers for two fun-to-make quilts, made from scraps for the cutest little girl and her stuffed pig. And a bonus sunset at the beach in November.

I love your scrappy stars quilt with its piggy blanket to match. You and your niece need to read “Geraldine’s Blanket” by Holly Keller. Perfect story for you two. I love all of your beautiful shares.

Love you quilt! Your little niece is a lucky little girl and piggy too! I may have to make one of these quilts in the near future-great use of scraps.

NH photos! All I can say it that's not Newick's behind the quilt and my mom likes to take her grandkids to Odiorne Point. The quilt is so pretty in the sunset. I love the version for the piggy.
I still have some Gingham Girls to dig into. What white-on-white would you recommend to go with it?
Amy says
We love Newick's and Odiorne Point! This beach is Jenness Beach near Rye. 🙂
Ooh - this would be so cute in Gingham Girls. I used Riley White with that collection. I'd love to see what you do!

Your quilt is gorgeous! I want to make one of these but the Fat Quarter Shop is out of papers.

I was glad to see these pictures because I bought two books of the papers for 6" blocks from FQShop before Christmas. I am planning to use them with what's left of a FQ bundle I bought last year. I like the way you arranged the blocks!
Amy says
Awesome! Have fun making them! They're so fun.

This quilt is the cutest ever! I can't wait to go stash diving. I have lots of pinks, as well as other pastels, that I have been saving for something special to come along. And, here it is! Also, many many fat quarters of Hush Hush, Hush Hush 2. (some people think I'm a hoarder)
Thank you so much.
Amy says
Hooray! It's such a fun one to piece. 🙂

Thank you for sharing this adorable quilt!
I've been wanting to paperpiece again and I have a couple of great-neices (twins) who may benefit from that! Hugs!
