Shamrocks & Rainbows – St. Patrick’s Day Sewing Projects

Last Modified: July 8, 2021 by Amy · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 7 Comments

Are you short on St. Patrick’s Day decor? Well, you’re in luck (get it? 😉) today! I’ve got a bunch of Shamrock and Rainbow sewing projects and ideas for March! Everything from quilt blocks, to felt shamrocks, and rainbow quilts both big and small. Most of these are quick, low-effort projects you can finish fast.

Even if you’re not looking to make anything right away, pin this image to find later. And just enjoy the eye candy and let these cheerful projects lift your spirits!

A Rainbow has lucky March connections, but definitely isn’t limited to March. These happy rainbow projects are a perfect pick-me-up anytime of the year.

Okay, these quilts aren’t a quick finish, but I couldn’t make a list of rainbow projects and not include them. This is my favorite scrap quilt pattern called Scrap Happy Rainbow Connection.

And here’s another fun one: this quilt pattern is called Sunshowers by Megan Collins

Lucky Rainbow and Pot of Gold quilt by Pen and Paper Patterns

And how is this for an adorable St. Patrick’s Day quilt – with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?! This quilt pattern is called Lucky and it’s from Pen and Paper Patterns.

And if you’re short on time to sew before St. Patricks Day, but still want a little way to celebrate – Polkadot Chair has a cute St. Patrick’s Day Rainbow printable gift jar idea.

    Shamrock Sewing Projects:

Gingham Shamrock zippy-pouches – would be a fun little treat bag or teacher gift

Felt Shamrock Pin (boutonniere)  – a simple and inexpensive St. Patrick’s Day accessory

Felt Shamrocks St. Patrick’s Wreath – tutorial from Flamingo Toes.

Maybe just a wee bit of hand stitching is all you need – this free Shamrock stitchery pattern is found here.

#lucky Shamrock mini quilt by April Rosenthal – I love the pop of green on the black gingham

Shamrock quilt block from Pat Sloan

Lucky Shamrock quilt block by the Sewing Loft

Heather from the Sewing Loft has a Lucky Shamrock quilt block available here in 6″ and 12″ sizes + a layout for making them into a quilt.

Quilting Daily has free quilt block patterns to make all of the blocks in this Tales of Ireland sampler quilt.

And I couldn’t have St. Patrick’s Day post with out sharing my Ireland Flags quilt. This one is a little more bittersweet, but sentimental to me.

Happy March y’all! (We made it!)

Thank you for the St Patrick’s Day patterns. It will be fun to make some of the easy crafts with my grandson before the 17th. (I visited Ireland three years ago and came away loving the country and its people maybe as much as you love England!)

Do you have a pattern for your Flags of Ireland quilt? It’s nice to have an Irish-themed quilt that isn’t cartoonish or silly.

I don’t have a pattern. It’s been so long since I made and gifted it. But it’s a really simple one to make – the three stripes for the flag are simple. Then I framed it in the brown background fabrics to make it a square and rotated the squares to make them “float”. Sorry I don’t have more specifics than that. Sketching it out on graph paper so you can visualize it will make it easier.

Love your new collection “Notting Hill”. Plan on getting some of that one for sure! Thank you for the free pattern. I really benefitted from your newsletter about selecting fabric for a quilt, very good tips.
