Simple Simon Guide to Patchwork Quilting

Simple Simon Guide to Patchwork Quilting

I'm honored to get to review The Simple Simon Guide to Patchwork Quilting. This is the first book from the amazing duo, Elizabeth Evans and Liz Evans from the inspiring sewing blog, Simple Simon and Company. (Yes, that is not a typo - they are two girls named Elizabeth who married brothers ended up with the same name!) Both girls are so delightful. Plus, they've got amazing sewing skills. You can see their free tutorials here.

    Simple Simon Patchwork Nine-Patch

This collaborative book focuses on an introduction to Quilting with 21 projects based on 7 traditional quilt blocks.

I love the modern spin and beautiful colors Elizabeth and Liz give these traditional quilt designs. All of the projects in the book are beautiful - as are the pictures!

    Simple Simon Flying Geese patchwork

I love this giant Flying Geese quilt variation.

    Simple Simon Patchwork Basket

Each of the seven traditional blocks featured has multiple projects beyond quilts based on that block. They include pillows, banners, skirts, aprons, and baby bibs. I love this nine-patch fabric basket - I think it would be a great way to use up some favorite fabric.

Simple Simon Flying Geese pounch pattern

I decided it would be fun to whip up the cute Flying Geese zipper pouch pattern. It's so simple and came together so quickly. I haven't sewed at my machine for weeks, so it was so satisfying to play with some fabric and sew together a quick finish.

Flying Geese zipper pouchThanks to the clear instructions I even confidently sewed in the zipper with no one here to hold my hand (other than the seven 8-12-year-old boys who were in and out of my house while I was working on it, but they probably wouldn't be reliable zipper-helpers anyway.)

Simple Simon Guild to Patchwork Quilting

The Simple Simon Guide to Patchwork Quilting is a great book for beginning quilters and sewers. The projects are simple enough that someone with very basic sewing skills would feel confident tackling them. The beautiful modern projects would be another enticing element for a younger sewer to want to jump in.

The book is now available now online or better yet, at your local quilt shop!
