I'm excited to share a fresh option for one of my favorite Baby Quilt designs. This traditional star quilt block called Sugarhouse Star, has been one of my favorites over the years and I've finally updated and put together a published version of the Baby Sugarhouse Start quilt pattern. This pattern is perfect for making a scrappy baby quilt with a cohesive design, or give it a modern vibe using a two-tone solids look.

Why You'll Love This Pattern
Timeless design. As I mentioned this pattern looks great in any palette - from subltle pastels to dark and moody solids.

Baby Sugarhouse Star is the pattern of the week and marked down 20% off this week only! (Through 11/ 9)
Baby-friendly size. This quilt finishes at approximately 40" x 40" and is fast to piece. It doesn't require a ton of fabric other than a good chunk of background color yardage.
If you're making it scrappy, you can easily pull the prints and colors from your stash and then pair with a solid like white like I did in this version made with my original Portsmouth fabric collection.

Another option is a simple two-tone quilt giving this very traditional design a bit more of a modern vibe. I chose Oxford Blue and Dream from Riley Blake Confetti Cottons for this version and I love how it has a more moody, masculine vibe.

For the backing I used the Blue Plaid from my Albion collection and I LOVE how they work together!
A Pattern Perfect For Using Scraps!
Here's a look at the most recent version I made using my latest Riley Blake collection, Mary Catherine with a few solids and even some of the pinks and reds from my Albion collection mixed in to make it even more scrappy.

For the background on this quilt I went with a white on white print - using my Blossom print in the Riley Blake Lights On! collection. I love how from a distance the background has a solid look, but when you look up close, there's a little more texture to the fabric with a light tone-on-tone print design.

Half Square Triangle Recommendation
This is constructed using a lot of Half Square Triangle (HST) quilt blocks. My favorite tool for making perfect HST quilt blocks is the Quilt in a Day Square Up Ruler.

This tool is simple and not expensive. And invaluable! You can see more of my shortcuts and techniques for making perfect Half Square Triangle blocks + how to use this ruler here.
Printed Pattern available Now!
The pattern is now available in Printed pattern format (in addition to the PDF version) for those who prefer a physical booklet at their sewing machine.

This also means that the printed copies are also available at wholesale for shops. You can find them available from Checker or Riley Blake Designs. Also, feel free to reach out to me directly for wholesale orders ([email protected]).
Here's a look at how the Baby Sugarhouse Star quilt compares in size to the original Sugarhouse Star Quilt Pattern. The original Sugarhouse Star quilt pattern has quilt sizes 74" x 74" Throw or 106" x 106" King options.

This pattern honestly comes together so quickly. It's perfect for making a timeless baby gift or even a striking wall hanging.

I ordered mine, and can't wait for it to arrive. My new focus is baby quilts. I want to have a selection for my grandkids to choose from when my great-grands come along.
