Well summer vacation officially started last week. In Utah the annual big Quilt Shop Hop always falls in June and life is typically always just too crazy to be able to go. This year my girls were at church Girl’s Camp and my husband out of town and I didn’t want to abandon my two younger boys. But then, my nice Dad offered to take my boys to lunch and the natural history museum on his day off and give my mom and I the chance to hit a couple of shops together. I will just state the obvious in saying we had a great time!
Here are Lori Holt’s very own (world-famous) quilts on display at Thimbles and Threads. That Lori is a creative genius.
The theme of the Shop Hop was Broadway musicals. Pine Needles quilt shop was The Sound of Music. So here is my best Maria von Trapp impersonation.
Sewing gets pretty sporadic in the summer, but I am working on a project/tutorial that I will share soon. So stay tuned for that.
Summer always throws me for a bit of a loop. It’s the lack of routine and schedule that does it for me. There are obviously some benefits with lack of schedule – like sleeping in, being lazy, etc. – but for the most part it make me a little edgy. I know that I need to just relax and embrace the chaos freedom that comes with summer. But for me, that is always easier said than done.
If you’re local and looking for a break from your own summer chaos, not mention a way to get out of the summer heat, I’ll be doing a trunk show and hands-on demo/class at My Girlfriends’ Quilt Shoppe in Logan Utah on Friday, June 26. 🙂 Click here for more information. It would be fun to hang out!
And if you’re not local, I still have a fun little summer-inspired fabric bundle to share with you. Pile O’Fabric online shop invited me to put together a fat quarter bundle. I LOVE playing with color and this color palette has been speaking to me lately. It makes me think of eating popsicles by the pool on sunny afternoons, so I called it Summer Afternoon.
The bundles are available in just the prints or just the coordinating Kona Solids. Or you can combine them. If you make something with this palette – I’d love to see!
And if your summer is crazy like mine, but you’re looking for a quilt retreat this fall, there are a few spots left at Quilt Bliss in November. I attended Quilt Bliss last year and it was so fun. It’s held in a gigantic cabin in the mountains of Utah with a great sewing space and gourmet food. All you need in one place! Teachers at this session include Sandi Henderson, The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery, Heather Andrus from Quilt Story. Visit the Quilt Bliss blog for more information. Tickets available here.

LOVE your bundle!

I am also a very routine-oriented person, and I totally agree with your description of the transition to summer chaos. It always takes me a couple weeks to adjust to “the new normal” of a laid-back schedule. Ironically, it takes that long to adjust to the school schedule again as well. Love the fabric colors; so creamy and dreamy.

A day shop hopping sounds perfect! I like your colour combinations for Pile o’Fabric. That’s one of my favourite parts of quilting and that shop always has the best bundles! It’s nice to see colours I wouldn’t have thought to put together.
