Over the past few weeks I've been making my Hopscotch quilt pattern using my latest fabric collection with Riley Blake Designs: Albion. This quilt is designed for using precut 2 ½" strips - aka Jelly Rolls or Rolie Polies.

By using the 2 ½" precuts, you get a variety of coordinated prints without having to buy lots of yardage. This is a great quilt pattern for using any Jelly Roll!
A set of pre-cut 2 ½" strips typically is made up of 40 strips with 1-2 of every print in the collection. You can find Albion Rolie Polies available now in your local quilt shop! Or check online from the Fat Quarter Shop and assorted Etsy shops.
You can also find a quilt kit for this Hopscotch in Albion quilt here.
For the two background colors I used the small dot print from Albion in Cloud and Ash. I love how the small dots add just a little bit of texture. But this quilt design also works great using solids! The neutral colors really help the prints and colors of the cross blocks to pop!
I took the quilt out for some glamour shots this week in the nearby canyon and foothills - as they were the inspiration for the Albion collection.
The fantastic quilting on this one was done by Sew Shabby Quilting using the Daisy Daze pantograph.
Solids and Brights Versions of Hopscotch Pattern
Here are a few other past variations of my Hopscotch quilt. The first one that I made was all solids with White as the dominant background color:
This is also a great quilt for using scraps. For example, if you have leftover precut strips, or remnants from favorite collections, it's a fun way to put them to use.
That's what I did with the next version that I made about 9 years ago. I was an avid Denyse Schmidt collector at the time and I loved the way the unique palette of her collections played together so beautifully!
This quilt was made with a variety of prints from my Denyse Schmidt stash, with some Alison Glass batiks mixed in. The colors are vibrant.
For this version I added another design element where I put the colors in a loose color-spectrum order. And I love the result! If you're every struggling with the look of a super scrappy quilt, try the color spectrum trick for a fun variation.
And with this latest version using my Albion collection, I love that the quilt is a more muted color palette for another twist on this design.
I don't know about you, but I love to see the same quilt pattern made with multiple different looks and palettes. Helps expand our creativity when we can see a variety of options, don't you think?
If you've got a Jelly Roll (or two. or more.) that you're trying to find a good pattern for using one, this pattern is a really fun one!

It is so beautiful! Love the soft background you used. Yes, so pretty in all the combinations, but the soft 'Ash' background makes your Albion fabrics pop out in your last version.

Amy you have done it again. Just gorgeous and I must say the chosen spot up the canyon for the photos is perfect. Congratulations on a great job all around.

Amy, your emails are always so nicely written and encouraging! I just want to say, I love the colors, and the actual quilting design is gorgeous. Thank you for your emails, I may not read them until a week later but I still enjoy your teaching ability. I made my first quilt using your baby quilt pattern that used 5" squares. it turned out beautiful. that was just a year ago. Thank you and God Bless your work and family.
