    The Start of Winter Sewing

Modified: Aug 12, 2020 · Published: Nov 17, 2014 by Amy Smart · This post may contain affiliate links · 20 Comments

Temperatures here have dropped drastically in the past week. I'm glad to say I got the bulk of my leaves raked up in time because I sure don't want to go out there now! The consolation is that it's been good weather to sit inside and sew. I know I mentioned I was struggling with my creativity recently - fortunately one of the best antidotes for me is digging into my fabric. Since it's time for holiday preparations, I pulled this little Christmas-y bundle.
Here are some of the results - a little forest of patchwork trees. I'm working on a couple of new projects with these guys, plus a few more Christmas-themed projects. I'll be sharing them by the end of the week as well as a new tutorial to make these fun blocks. (Warning - they're addictive.) So stay tuned.

I've also been trying to catch up on my Aurifil Block of the Month blocks. (One of the many things I'm behind on.) These two blocks were really fun. The one on the left is the August block of the month (free pattern here) and the one on the right is from July (free pattern here.) I'm especially smitten by Camille's On the Plus Side block (right). I think I'd like a whole quilt out of these.

Here are all of my blocks so far. I still have some catching up to do, but I figure with one a week or so, I'll catch up quick. You can find links to all of the 2014 Aurifil Blocks of the Month here. And don't forget - you can enter a photo of your blocks to the Aurifil Flickr group to be entered to win awesome thread prizes. (Big ones!)

So many projects calling my name but so much real life too - dentist visit, school play, driver's ed, etc. etc. Oh well. Good thing I function with little snatches of time and lots of half-done projects left at the end of the day...

ooh love those little trees - can't wait for that pattern 🙂 I think that little bits of stolen time for ourselves are the lot of all working moms (which is to say all moms!). I can't wait to be retired and then maybe get some good sewing time in - teehee.

I love the trees you've created! They are really beautiful - can't wait to see your tutorial! 🙂 The only benefit of this ucky cold for me is that it's ideal sewing/crochet time.

Drivers ed? I didn't realize you had a child that old. I guess they've grown up quickly. Sigh.

Nooo! You can't possibly have a teen ready for driver's ed--maybe some adult in the house is brushing up on driving skills? (I just took a driver's ed class for seniors that reduced my car insurance rate--but you couldn't possibly qualify for that. 🙂 Those cute trees look like just the jump into some improv that I need.
