Happy Valentines Day + a Splendid celebration

red and white hearts quilt-2

Happy Valentine’s Day! This quilt is an old favorite. I think I made it about 10 years ago, but I still love getting it out every year. It’s also a good reminder for me that red and white quilts never get old. The pattern was from the Buggy Barn – I don’t think it’s still in print. But you could make something similar with all of the heart patterns available out there.

Heart Quilt Block

And here’s one more fun way to celebrate today. If you’ve been following along with Pat Sloan and Quilt Jane’s Splendid Sampler for the past year, than you know that they just reached the 100th quilt block pattern! Woohoo! Which means: time for some serious giveaways! Be sure to check out the Splendid Sampler blog for your chance to enter + all the details and links to other blogs joining in.

Splendid Sampler Quilt Blocks

I got behind on my blocks, but seeing so many beautiful finishes has me motivated to keep making more. Slowly but surely. They’re so fun to make – and such a great way to play with new, scrappy fabric and color combinations. You can read more about the block I contributed here. And if you’re just getting started, here’s all the info.

Amy Smart patterns

To join in the celebration, I’m giving away a copy of my book, Fabulously Fast Quilts, and all 5 of my patterns! Just leave a comment saying Hi (or anything else) and you’ll be entered. (To leave a comment click on the little word bubble with a number in it at the top right of the post.) Giveaway ends 2/26/17 at midnight MST.

Red Hearts quilt-2

As proof that I’m getting older, I was having a classic senior moment last night and I’m not sure which reality is more disturbing: that I bought the Valentine’s candy (for the kids to take to school) ahead of time and then hid it so well from the kids that now I can’t find it OR that I just thought I bought the candy when in fact I did not. Oh dear. (Insert eye roll here.) Well, either way, my nice husband made a trip to WalMart at 9:45 at night to get the needed candy.

Look with LoveFinally, sending a bit of love your way. Don’t forget to be gentle with yourself and those around you. Heaven knows we can use as much gentle and kind as possible these days. xo

Finally picked a prize winner for the Splendid Celebration. Thanks to all who entered and for your kind comments. xo

WINNER: KRISTEN February 14, 2017 at 7:03 pm

I love your blog. After reading for years, I finally got starting quilting myself! I’d love the fast ones because maybe fast is somewhat synonymous with easy?
Thanks for the chance. Also, thank you for the series for the beginner and making this art form attainable for newbies!

What a lovely thought in your quote there at the end. And you have a true valentine in a guy that loves you and the kids enough to go out and buy candy at bedtime! I think it’s those kinds of things that show our love every bit as much as a fancy card and chocolates.

Instead of going to cycling class today, after a long night up with a sick child, I am going to take a walk and listen to the Bible on CD. It won’t burn as many calories but it will do wonders for my mind and my body.

My mom is a classic hide it and forget it person. She gave me a bag with candy for the grandkids along with Valentine’s cards she had bought when I was growing up that she meant to have us send that we never did. We’re talking maybe 20 year old cards now. I can almost guarantee she has presents stashed that she bought for Christmases long ago that she couldn’t find in time that we have long (long) since outgrown. And, just to prove that I am her daughter, I had to put a reminder in my phone for me to not buy a birthday present for my youngest because we accidentally bought him an extra Christmas present and hid it in a closet. So don’t feel too bad. ☺

Love the sentiments expressed in the quote. We should all take it to heart. I’m splendidly on track to finish block #100 later today. Yippee!! You are not alone in being forgetful – I have to write myself notes all the time and attach them to the car keys, or tape a note to the frig door or pin one to the clothes I’m going to be wearing when I go out. And there was something else I had intended to write in this comment, but it’s gone out of my head now. Duh!

Our brains are so full of knowledge, important information and of course so much creativity (even hiding, yes I know) that we do forget some stuff. I love this valentine quilt and the quote, and your wise words.

I hid some candy from myself so that I could avoid binging on the whole bag. I then forgot about if completely and when I finally remembered buying it, I couldn’t remember where I hid it. Finally found it a few months later. (Sad thing is I am not even a senior yet, so I cannot blame it on a senior moment, sigh.) Thanks for the giveaway, hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Love your heart quilt. I wonder if it will look good in colors other than red?

Hi! Thank you for a chance to win! I lost our dogs treats I bought for her stocking at Christmas. Though for sure I must have tossed out with some shopping bags. Recently cleaned out our closet and there they were right where I put them and think I looked at least a dozen times.

    Happy belated Valentine’s Day!
I learned so much through this journey.
Paper piecing was my biggest accomplishment.. 🙂
I met so many friends from all over the world, not to mention all the designers that I never knew before.. 🙂
Thank you for your lovely Goose on the loose block too!

hi – thank you for participating in The Splendid Sampler. This was the first mystery quilt I have done. I loved every minute of it. I am currently doing QAYG and getting ready to attach the rows together. I am missing the excitement of new blocks already. Take care.
