This weekend it’s time for Block #9 of the Virtual Quilting Bee. This block was designed by the clever Colleen Molen of the Busy Bean blog. While you’re there, you should also check out some of Colleen’s other tutorials – she is a crazy talented girl.

Let’s talk briefly about blocks. Some of these blocks have been a little bit trickier. I like to look at it as an opportunity to try something new, broaden our skills and become more awesome. That said (important public service reminder:) this is YOUR QUILT. You can make whatever blocks you want, however you want. There is no quilt gestapo that is going to come check on you OR give you a grade.
Remember, this is fun. If it suddenly feels more stressful than fun, step away from the block. Make a second block using a tutorial you really liked or even found elsewhere! Do what feels enjoyable to YOU. There is enough “have to do” stuff in our lives. It’s important to keep the “want to do” stuff relaxing and fun. 🙂

I love this block! Just a correction – you only need 8 each of the 2×2 squares, not 16. It was a fun block to make.

LOVE your quilt gestapo comment, and the reminder that this should be a FUN project. You're right, we're doing this for enjoyment, not a "have to" chore! This has little pieces, but also has some lessons for those of us learning.
