How is it already November?! This summer seemed to go SO fast - not to mention this whole calendar year! I'm still wrapping my head around it. And with a new month, a new update of what I'm working on. I've got both finishes and new beginnings to share, including my first holiday projects of this season. So here's a look at what's on my sewing table, and if you want to gauge my progress, here's a look at where things were at last month.
For starters, you can still see my Winki Stars blocks on my design wall. I finished one more block since I shared in October. But I've also officially cut and started piecing the last two blocks.
All of the pieces are cut with templates and I'm hand piecing most of the seams in the block. There's a lot of Y-seams. (I did start to machine piece a few of the straight seams.) I'm excited to finally finish up this long-time WIP! I've decided 3 x 14 blocks is just right for me. 🙂
After sewing the blocks together, I'm considering hand quilting it too. After all of the hand-work that's already been invested, I figure I might as well hand quilt, right? It's not too big, and it's been a while since I've hand quilted anything... we'll see what happens.
This quilt is a fun labor of love. And it's meeting two of my quilt-y goals for this year:
- Finish more WIPS
- make time for more slow-sewing "heirloom" type quilts.
In the middle of the table you can see my Woven Stars quilt blocks sewn together and quilted! It's ready to take on the road for some hand-binding and delivering to a special recipient. I'll share more finished photos after it's been gifted. 🙂
I'm SO smitten with how it's turned out. And if you look close, I'm making a mini quilt version using 4" x 4" blocks. For these two quilts I used the Woven Stars 6" Foundation Papers from the Fat Quarter Shop. They're out of stock at the moment, but the FQS is great about letting you know when they're back in stock next month.
I used the 4" x 4" size foundation paper-piecing blocks for the mini quilt. It's such a great block for using up scraps!
And even though they're tiny pieces, the blocks turn out perfect because they're foundation pieced. (If you're looking for a good introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing, check out this tutorial from Liza Taylor.)
The low volume prints for both of those quilts are mostly from Riley Blake's Hush Hush 3 and 4 collections. SO MANY cute, low volume prints!
Speaking of Liza Taylor, her new book Paper Pieced Quilt Blocks is now available in stores. Here's a look at some of the flower blocks from the book featuring my Albion fabric Collection.
I had the chance to see Liza share her book and many of the gorgeous projects at Quilt Market a couple of weeks ago in person - and they are gorgeous! I want to make so many of them!
I guess I'm in my Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) era right now, because it's all I want to work on. lol.
(Again, if FPP overwhelms you, know you're not alone. It takes a bit of practice to wrap your head around how it works, but once you do, I think it's SO MUCH FUN and rewarding because the accuracy of the piecing is so precise and you can make some really intricate quilt blocks.)
New fabric on my Sewing Table this month. This new botanical collection by Wanderlust by Danelys Sidron for Riley Blake Designs.
I've been toying with the idea of making some more zipper purses as Christmas gifts and I think this fabric would be SO pretty.
Finally, I've also officially started the first holiday projects of Christmas 2024. I've started some hand stitching to take on the road using the Missouri Star Enchanted Christmas embroidery kit.
And I started this fun little tree quilt project using the latest Perfectly Pieced kit from ME Time Delivered!
Here's a little sneaky-peek. These blocks are 2" x 2" and they're both pieced AND quilted using the embroidery hoop function of my Baby Lock Altair sewing machine.
Thanks for being my accountability partners. I've found it really helps me to focus on finishing when keep track of and share what I'm working on each month. I hope it also shows that I've got my own WIPs, UFO's* and log term projects. I'm not getting anything done overnight, that's for sure!

Love these WIP posts! Thanks for the heads-up about Liz's book. I keep seeing that echinacea block everywhere, but didn't know who designed it!
