Summer vacation has officially started at our house. Just finished Day #2 yesterday. Day #1 consisted in part of extracting a sliver from the foot of a 5-yr-old (always an adventure), a trip to the Doctor for another kid that I thought had pink eye (just allergies, fortunately) and the discovery that the neighbor kids along our street have the stomach flu! I guess we're officially off and running!
My projects have relocated to the kitchen table so that I can be along side the Moon Sand action (or Playdoh, water colors, legos, perler beads, what have you) and I can more readily heed the on going call for popsicles.
I have to admit, I've been slightly petrified for summer vacation to start. Last summer I nearly checked myself into the funny farm. I've adjusted schedules, routines and expectations this year for the kids, but mainly for myself and I think it will make a difference. The main difference is that I want to do better about living in the moment.
One thing I am going to do differently this summer is blog less. Or at least more simply. I tried to keep blogging as usual last summer and it was too much for me and my family. I know I won't totally abandon blogging because I like to sew in the summer and I know I'll want to share. But the posts will be simpler and fewer. Which is probably a win-win for everyone since I think everybody is just busier in the summer whether it's kids, gardens & yard work, vacations, shop-hops, and those iron-woman triathalons you've all entered. So really, you have less time to read my mindless drivel anyway! But we'll still hang out and catch-up from time to time. This will just give us all a little more time to run though the sprinklers and eat Popsicles if we feel so inclined.
I'm going to try to keep up on emails and such, but if I get a little stinkier than usual at that, you'll know why. Please feel free to pester me again if I don't get back to you right away.
PS Thanks SO much for the Soul Blossom Quilt love. I'm working on the kits and the patterns this week. I will post when they are available to order. Thanks again!

I can't believe summer is upon us! I'll be busy with my kids soon too...Friday is their last day and a half one at that! =)

We're going to all work on stitching, sewing, painting and hopefully lots of outdoor fun too! I'm going to try my best to focus on them having a GREAT Summer! I'll probably still blog...but early or late. =)

Have a great one!

Love how you love your kids. Thanks for keeping the focus where it needs to be and not on us nosy, needy quilting geeks!

I love the fashion statement. My brother wore boots a size too big for a year because "me do meself" insisted on putting his boots on - on the wrong feet! The family has some very entertaining pictures of this accomplishment! Enjoy your summer!

I'm really looking forward to summer w/ my children, though child #1 is still busy growing in my uterus.
Debbie
yay for summer! Enjoy!

I love lazy summer. I'm still waiting for it to arrive, but I do love it.

I want to set up a card table in the family room to sew near my kids, but that would mean blocking off the front door. 🙂 ha ha ha

So, I'll settle for the cool basement with a window open to hear the crazies outside.

Have a great summer. (My goal is to finish at least one

Lovely post. Take your summer at it's own pace--I've already slowed down on my blogging, because I just can't do it all! (And I want to sew and get a few things cleaned out around the edges of the house.)

I remember those days when my four, now adult, children were home----give anything to have one of those days back. Love the shorts, must have been hard to get the zipper up.

So funny that you want to do better about living in the moment! My goal for this summer is to be more scheduled... Last summer I almost got sent to the funny farm because I was way too unprepared. I guess there is a happy medium.

so brave...moon sand right next to beautiful fabric. have a wonderful summer.

You will never regret the time you spend with your kids!

Hi,
I'm your newest follower. I can totally relate to the summertime crunch. I look forward to it all year, and when it is here I am just so busy doing "everything" I barely have time to step back and take it all in. I need to go sit on the porch a little more often! Just sit, do nothing else!! I love your blog, makes me want to go quilt, but I can't, cause I have to

My son frequently wears his trousers back to front, he's not done inside out - yet!

I wish we had kids sewing classes nearby my daughter would love that, she wants to learn but she doesn't respond well to being taught by me.

In England we still have five or six weeks of school but this will be my first summer as a working mum. My shifts work out pretty well so

Sounds so familiar! My kids are already going crazy too! I like your idea of taking it a bit easier with less stress! Way to go. Hope your summer is fantastic and relaxing!

Enjoy your kiddos this summer. It goes by soooo fast. I would love to just see a picture of what you're working on, or finished with, and a sentence or two about it. Pictures of projects always inspire me to make something. This way you have lots more time to get in the sprinkler and enjoy a popsicle or two. OR three!

Amy

I learned that last summer. Blog posting has to slow down. Don't worry about other people's expectations of you. Besides it is so much fun to jump into the kiddy pool. I may or may not do that!

So cute! As far as fashion goes, my son loves the backwards look! 🙂

Iron woman triathalons? Really, well with summer still 7 weeks away here in the UK, I still have time to add that one to my schedule too! LOL Have a wonderful, 'in the moment' summer 🙂

Bwhahahahaaaa! Hubby wants to know if boy's shorts are slip ons or did he really have to work at getting it sipped up....cause he said....a boy would do that and not think anything of it!:)

Your blog will be here as long as you want, but your kiddos will be grown and gone before you know.

Enjoy them now.....billie in TX

Meh. I realized last week (in public) that our son had his shorts on backwards. I told him that and he argued with me. Ooookay dude. That was not a hill I wanted to die on, so I let him parade around town with backwards shorts. LOL

Love the pic of the moon sand and fabric scraps!

Love the pants. I hope to see them in person, along with the new stitchery stuff and the fam in August.

Hi Amy...
It looks like you and your family are off to a good start on a great summer!...I agree about the living in the moment thing. You will never regret time spent with your kids and especially when it's spent teaching them some good crafty skills...good for you:)
I'm looking forward to the very same kind of summer too...
I enjoyed you're post...and my popsicle
Vicki
I'm already on my summer blogging schedule, even though I didn't realize it was going to be this way. It's been so busy but in a good way.

If you do any apparel sewing, a serger is so good to have. It makes things easier and faster and more professional-looking. I really like having one!
Carolyn
I totally love your blog and have been a follower for quite some time! I would love to have you visit mine, too. There is always something going on there! LOL Thank you for all that you share with us. Happy rest of the week and I look forward to seeing your sweet face on my blog sometime soon! Hugs from Texas!

Ooh! I like DD#1's pile, especially the light blue fabric. Looks like DD#2 is off to a good start with her hand sewing.

Here's to a great summer!

Amy! I'm long over due on a visit to you here in blogland, how are things?

I had a trip to England (yes, another!) planned for last month & it didn't happen, but made me think of you, lucky girl, who lived there even!!

Looks like summer is treating you well, my sewing/project pile needs tending to, too!

xoxo
Terresa

Ummm.....I really think I need to have a Soul Blossoms Quilt Kit. Any idea how much you'll be offering them for?

Do you know of any people offering quilting services in the New York area? I'm on Long Island, and we don't have a lot of quilty love over here! :/ Thanks in advance for any direction!!
