At The Secret Garden, Thanksgiving Point, Utah |
Most of my kids started school this past week. On Tuesday my baby starts Kindergarten.
This is a day I NEVER thought would come, and here it is. Isn't life weird?
Weirder yet, my oldest started Junior High School. I think I am far more terrified of that idea than she is.
So, summer. We did it. I don't know if we did it perfectly (please let me know if you find someone who did) but I think we did it well. I was much more sane than last year, that's for sure, and yet I still have some of the same mixed emotions as last year.
I was going to write an inspiring post about the depth of my thoughts and emotions about soaking up summer and motherhood and priorities and living in the moment and how fleeting childhood is, blah, blah. . . . But every attempt I made to write those thoughts I come up with total blogger's block.
I guess my brain is officially fried. So I will let this sign I found on Pinterest speak for me instead:

This is what I learned this summer. Priorities. And sometimes I was more successful than others, but it was good to know I could simplify or put aside stuff like sewing, blogging, mopping the floor :), etc. for my highest priority, which is my family. And that would make life happier for all. And it worked. Most of the time. 🙂
I'm looking forward to getting back into our routines and I have a list a mile long of Works-in-Progress, etsy plans, blogging updates, patterns to write, and maybe even a cleaner kitchen floor, while the kids are in school. In the mean time, thanks so much for hanging out with me and for your patience with my lack of creativity and maybe some flakiness over the past months while my family came first. I know that you were probably doing the same. You people are awesome.
PS Linda and Carol are the winners of the Inspirational Projects giveaway. Yay for Linda and Carol. I've sent you both emails. Thanks to all who entered and for all of your nice comments. They made my week fun.

I am glad to took the rode of family first. They grow up so fast, and your children will remember. I am in Vail, CO and will return home today. Need to organize, family is coming into town.

Hmmm....I don't think you were flaky....me thinks you are too hard on yourself! We are patient readers and you had a post almost every week...what more can we ask for?:)

Wowser....baby going to kindergarten....I think you need to take this first week for yourself...don't worry about the floors....sit on the couch with a nice cup of something and read a book!:) DO IT!!!:)

My children are both adults but that picture took me right back to that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you watch them step out and you feel such a responsibility for them but know that the right think to do is stand back and watch....I'm so glad we did. We have two beautiful young women in our live that constantly amaze us with their depth and wisdom.

My older son starts junior high on Thursday. I cannot believe it, and I am terrified. Shhh--don't tell him! The younger starts 3rd tomorrow.

I have a huge list of projects to finish too. And a couple to start, but I MUST finish some of these things. They've been haning over me all summer!

I don't suppose you'd like to come and practise on my floor, just to remind you what to do, before you tackle yours??! No, didn't think so but it was worth a try! I'm glad you had a lovely summer, I don't think you can go far wrong if you prioritise your children!

great picture! your kids are on the threshold of a bright future! and you have a great rule of thumb - one can do anything, but not everything! holds true through the years. keeps one trying all these new things these days.

Yay for a great summer and to new beginnings! My baby started K just over a week ago and my oldest started 6th (with the middle one in 3rd). My emotions have probably been much like yours. If it helps, it is getting better each day 😉 Smiles~Beth

I agree wholeheartedly, as a Mother of one small one, who works, sews and generally tries to do everything I am enjoying spending a few days at home with my beautiful daughter. I love being her Mum!!! It's so nice to put them first.

Soapysyrie

The hardest thing for me to learn, always. You can do anything but not everything. I try to do everything. I hope school goes well for you. My oldest goes to kindergarten. I'm overjoyed and scared to death. He is excited. 🙂
