Check out my new project: Red White and Blue Orange Peel applique quilt blocks.
Welcome to the new look here at DoaQ. I've been wanting for a while to change things up. Thanks to my talented friend April for making it possible. (I am so technologically un-savvy.)
While we're here, a couple of random things to share. My applique 'orange-peel' blocks. I started this last year then some of the blocks got lost when I was carrying them around last winter. I was starting to worry that they'd accidentally been thrown out with the Christmas trash, but when I was cleaning behind the couch this summer, lo and behold, there they were. Whew! Always excited when that happens. This is the first time I've put all the finished blocks, so far, on my design wall. I'm trying to decide how big to eventually go with this one. We'll see. It will probably be a long-time work in progress.
In the mean time I've got a few quilts finished and ready to bind this weekend while I watch LDS General Conference (one of my favorite times of the year.) I will show them off in the next week or so. One is a gift so I have to wait until it's gifted so I don't ruin the surprise here. The other is going to Market in Houston! (Unlike me this time.) But I'm okay, I have some travels of my own up my sleeve this month, including the Sewing Summit next week. I'm getting very excited but already having those dreams where I show up on the wrong day and missed the whole thing, or all 250 people are hiding from me - stuff like that. 🙂
Lots of other busy-ness going on - my plate feels full. And yet in the midst of all of it I've succumbed to my annual Pride & Prejudice obsession. Dang Mr. Darcy = so distracting.
And finally, just because I know you're all dying to know about the highly professional behind-the-scenes goings-on around here, I discovered this little gem on my cell phone that was, unbeknownst to me, capturing some of those thrilling live-action moments of blogging. This video is called "My Mom is doing a Blog Post." And no, I'm sorry, it does not include Colin Firth.

for some years now I watch all the P&P dvd's when we return from our summer holiday. All episodes in one day.... and my two daughters don't think I'm weird as they watch with me if they can :-)

I love the fabric of your blocks!

Amy love those orange peel blocks, I did a very, very similar quilt in mostly blues years back that we still have on our bed today. It's on the bottom of the bed, 3rd picture in this post:
https://thatsmyletter.blogspot.com/2012/03/m-is-for-master-bedroom.html

Change can be good 🙂 Although I like every version of P & P, the one with Keira Knightley is my fav.

If you haven't already, make sure you watch the 1930's(?) version of Pride and Prejudice starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. The best!!

LOL Kids are great! 🙂
I love the colors on the Orange peel quilt. SO glad they did not get thrown out. That would have been terrible.

Oh Amy, I just love your new look - I loved it the old way too. Your orange peel quilt is very nice and I must say as always your inspire me to go off and create even though I'm no where near the standard that you are. Thank you for such a great blog - I love reading it and especially the parts where you swoon over Mr Darcy, makes me feel right at home, sigh...
Melissa Corry

Oh Mr. Darcy...be STILL my heart. I am SOOO ready for P&P, and a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Glorious to wake up and see the weather is more Fall like. I have not been a fan of the high TEMPS when I am dreaming quilts and knitting. XXX
Michelle
I'm glad you found them! I'm still looking for some cat blocks I cut out four or five years ago. The quilt top is done, which means they should be turning up soon!
Angela Nash

Ohhh I think tonight sounds like the perfect night to watch Pride and Prejudice again! I can agree with Mr. Darcy being a sewing distraction!! Love your new look and the video, how cute!
Rebecca Grace
I love your orange peel blocks! That's one of the patterns I've always admired, but that seems too difficult for me to even think about trying. Have fun at Sewing Summit. I'm sure not EVERYONE will hide from you! 😉
CathyK
AHHHHH Mr. Darcy!!!!! No one can play Mr. Darcy like Collin Firth!! P.S. Looks like some pretty quilts are being made!
trish
Love your new look Amy!! :0)
You will have so much fun at the sewing summit.
Thimbleanna
Hahaha -- looks like you have your little one well trained. That made me laugh. Perhaps he could give my hubby some advice LOL.

LOVE those orange peel blocks. I really want to do one, but my only foray into experimental blocks were a mess -- they were too busy. I can see by your blocks that the secret is to have very subdued backgrounds. Thanks for the inspiration!
Nanette Merrill

Love, love the commentary on the video.
