Welcome to my pit-stop on the Sweet Celebrations Blog Tour! In case this is your first introduction, Moda Bake Shop has compiled a book of all new patterns, Sweet Celebrations with Moda Bakeshop Chefs, with inspiring sewing creations to celebrate your favorite seasons and holidays throughout the year.
What is your favorite part of quilting – fabric selection, piecing, quilting, binding – and why?
Wow. I have so many favorite parts of quilting. I really enjoy the cutting, piecing and even binding, but if forced to pick a favorite, I would have to choose the fabric selection process. Picking the color palette and fabrics, laying out the contrasting prints and textures - I just love that part.
What sewing accomplishment are you most proud of?
I would have to say, finishing my Union Jack quilt this summer. It's been a long time work-in-progress and I'm so happy it's done. I'm glad I had the London Olympics as my deadline motivation.
But since that tradition is still evolving I thought I would share one of our very established Thanksgiving traditions: my Grandma's Pumpkin Chiffon Pie recipe (not pictured). This pie is a light, fluffy, chilled version of a classic Thanksgiving flavor. My grandma passed away 9 years ago and my mom has continued that tradition every year. One of these days I need to make one myself so that I can carry on the tradition. Here is that recipe. Even if you're not a traditional 'pie' person (I'm not either) you might like this one!
And now the really fun part! I get to give away a copy of Sweet Celebrations with Moda Bakeshop Chefs to one of you as well as well as one of the latest collections of Moda precuts!
To Enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post. Anything you want to say. If you're feeling stumped, tell me your favorite holiday to sew for.

Although I was a 4-H'er as a kid, I've only recently begun sewing again - some quilting (gifts for new babies has been popular with me)and things for my home (curtains, wall-hangings and the like). I'm getting ready to start a Christmas gift, so I suppose that would make my favorite holiday to sew for Christmas, as I've never sewn for any other holiday.
Jo

Carla
My favourite holiday to sew for would be Christmas . Thanks

Pumpkin Chiffon Pie!!! I'm not a real "pie person", but this sounds Heavenly!! I have got to try this recipe-- it'd be perfect to take to my Mom's for Thanksgiving! My grandma 's traditional Thanksgiving dish was her cornbread dressing, which my Mom took over when Grandma was no longer able to do it.. There is no recipe-- and I've watched and tried to duplicate

hanksgiving is my favorite holiday also, if for no other reason than because it has not become "merchandized" like all the other big holidays. It doesn't hurt that pumpkin pie is my absolute favorite pie and I love turkey and dressing/stuffing also. I'm ready for some right now!

I love fall and thanksgiving, which is actually a tradition we began when we moved to the US from Belize. We never celebrated it before, since it is an american tradition and I grew up in German Mennonite community.
blondie19012k
I'm in the UK, we only really celebrate Christmas, halloween isn't all that big over here generally, so I would have to say Christmas! I sew a little for birthdays too, but definitely more for Christmas.

Hmmm, my back is killing me from standing over my cutting table for most of the day. I wish I could figure out a set-up that allows me to dot down, but I can't seem to get the leverage I need to keep my ruler from slipping. That's all. Happy Wednesday!
Katie
I'm ready to sew quilts when the weather gets cool so I'm getting geared up now. I have fall quilts to work on!
Thanks for the chance to win that great new book!

I had to laugh when you talked about not telling people about your "Granny" hobby because I too have felt that way.Belonging to all the blogs that I do you get over these feelings and develop new "friends" who are of all ages and you feel you have something in common.
foodmathquilts
Thanks for the recipe! I like so sew for "just because" rather than a specific holiday - less pressure means I am more likely to enjoy the project and actually finish things!

(so ... baby quilts are sometimes shower presents, or "birth" day, and sometimes don't get delivered until the little one is much older!)

My summer project was lots of tote bags

Thanks for the wonderful recipe! Am going to tuck this one away for later. 😛
I have made so many friends over the internet through quilting groups too. Some I have actually met, others, I probably never will, but I know if I have a quilting problem or a "life" issue, they'll be there with answers and support!

Sandy A

Pumpkin chiffon! I had no idea other people made that!!! It has always been in my family. Until I was 25 I never actually got any, my brothers ate it all. I had always been content with chocolate but now, holy cow why did I wait 25 years before insisting I try some!
Debby
The book will be going on my Christmas wish list for sure!!! What cute quilts
Debbie M
I so need this book--please draw me!! My favorite thing to sew for is me--I'm not being selfish cause i give my projects away--but i do it for the fun of it.

I had to laugh at your "granny" comment. When I was in my late 20s I was getting lots of mail from AARP. My now husband (but wasn't then) said "It's probably because of all of those quilting magazines you get". Even with that comment, we got married and are still married!
Melissa
I love your Union Jacket quilt. I just started quilting this summer and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

My grandma made pumpkin chiffon pie too--her recipe is far less detailed than yours--just a list of ingredients. Since she died in 1932, we've been carrying on the tradition for decades (although some years we use a different recipe). I love Thanksgiving--it's a great time to trot out family memories.

(Great Union Jack quilt. I could look at it for hours!)

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday to sew and do crafts for. With no kids anymore, it isn't quite as fun, but I am entertaining myself this year by making a quilt for each season/holiday, placemats for each season/holiday and now...a quilt for each of my grand children for their christmas present!

I'm really new to quilting, like really new. I've made 8 of one type of quilt, the "simple as pie" with the raw squares sewn on as a grid on a big square (or table runner) and that's the extent of my quilting. I've been sewing all my life, won the Home Economics award twice in high school and minored in clothing and textiles at BYU, but haven't been brave enough to
Melissa
I don't sew for a specific holiday, but I love making quilts for my friends and family!

I do like to give handmade gifts though I'm not very good at getting things done for particular occasions. I do manage to finish kind of randomly, though, so I've developed a bit of a reputation for giving gifts more "out of the blue" than when I'm supposed to. It's how I roll ... apparently.
damselflyadventures
I hope to become a really great quilter like you one day 🙂 I love your quilts. The heart quilt at top is too cute but the union jack is pretty awesome! 🙂
