This bundle - Paperie by Amy Sinibaldi for Art Gallery Fabrics - has been sitting on the dresser in my sewing room for weeks. I am SO smitten with and I have been holding off cutting into it until I knew just the right thing to do with it.
This collection is full of so many sweet little details. Which, if you are familiar with Amy Sinibaldi - aka Nana Company - you already know she is a master of perfect detail.
Last night the perfect idea finally hit and I started cutting furiously once my kids were settled for the night.
I started sewing blocks and enjoying more little details as I cut into the fabric. I love that quote from Jane Eyre- my favorite book as a teenager. 🙂
Here are my blocks so far. This is from my Crossing Guard Pattern in Fabulously Fast Quilts. I am so smitten with the way it's coming together. I've wanted to remake this pattern in scrappy prints (the original is in solids). I love all the low-volume prints in Paperie and I think it will create a whole new look for this quilt design. I'll probably only do a crib size, and I think it will make such a pretty baby quilt.
Paperie is available from Westwood Acres, Fat Quarter Shop, Lady Belle Fabrics, Southern Fabrics, and Pink Castle Fabrics.
Speaking of fabric I am totally smitten with right now, check out this Vintage Kitchen fabric by Andrea Muller for Riley Blake. I have been collecting pyrex for a few years now and love prints with vintage dishes on them. I think this collection may be my favorite vintage-dishes print yet!
I like that the prints are small enough that if you cut it up for piecing, you can still see the cute dishes.
SO many cute details to love in these prints. The cat! The tulips! The onions! The happy, anthropomorphic cloud!
Vintage Kitchen is available from Fabricworm and Fabric.com.
In other fun fabric news, Westwood Acres is opening a new round of their popular I Want Her Stash and pattern club. There are some awesome faces in this group including Amanda Jean, Jeni Baker, and Denyse Schmidt! (holy smokes) I can't wait to see what bundles they pick! (Click here to see the full list.)
This bundle club is extra fun because it includes a new, exclusive pattern with the bundle. Here's a peek at the January bundle and pattern by Megan McNeilly of Lucy and Norman. Westwood Acres has other monthly clubs including their low volume Inside Voices club and their dreamy Liberty Club.
I love my bundles of fat quarters from last year's stash - in fact I'm using them to pull fabrics for the upcoming Splendid Sampler. (I'm doing my best to channel Jen Kingwell now and make it super scrappy - at least 200 fabrics!)
If you haven't heard about the Splendid Sampler, check out the website and Facebook group. It's a free, year-long sampler quilt with over 100 quilt blocks and lots more besides, and it starts next week!
There is a lot going on behind this scenes around here right now - including this diamond block using Maureen Cracknell's Fleet and Flourish. I am deep in the throes of prepping for QuiltCon which is only 2 weeks away. Yikes! I'm so excited and slightly nervous (okay, majorly nervous) as I'm teaching multiple classes and I'm a QuiltCon newbie. Anyone out there coming to QuiltCon? Are you a newbie too? If you're a veteran, I'd love any advice as well as suggestions in what you liked best about classes/teachers.
Okay, whew. That was a lot of random stuff for one post. See? Like I said, a LOT going on around here. February is going to be a bit bananas! But a good kind of bananas. 😉

Oh my so much in one post! I love all those fabrics. Te Vintage kitchen is so cute. The "I want her Stash club sounds like a lot of fun.

Hey, that's the Pyrex bowl I grew up with and learned to make cookies and cakes! Mom has/had the whole set. If I remember correctly, the middle one of the set got broken. I remember we had to make a pinata for Girl Scouts one year, so we used the big bowl for our mold and made 2 halves that we then joined together to make the center ball. Mom's been downsizing lately. I wonder if she still has them, cause I have always loved the color. Mine from 1990 are beige with brown decorations. Not a big brown fan in my home decor.

I love that turquoise color too!

Wow, that was a lot of good and inspiring information. This will be my third QuiltCon. So glad to see you will be there. There is a lot to see there! Enjoy it!

I'm looking forward to it!!

I love the look of Crossing Guard in those low volume fabrics! I'm coming to QuiltCon (newbie) and will be in your all day Thursday class. So, so excited! I've been trying to decide which fabrics to bring. Any suggestions? High contrast? Coordinated vs scrappy? I'm kind of paralyzed by having to choose and not being able to just go into the closet to pick something else in the moment. See you soon!

hah! I hear you! I always end up taking way too much fabric to a quilting class because I never know what I'll be in the mood to use when I get there. I'm going to show samples of both high contrast and low volume (like this new Crossing Guard pattern! 😉 ) so I can only say, bring what you like. How's that for super helpful?

It will be my first time at Quiltcon and I'm taking your class and can't wait to meet you. No need to be nervous, you'll be amazing. Just be yourself!
Amy Smart
Aww, thanks Alicia. I'll look forward to meeting you too! It's just always so much more fun to have a real, live person to put to a name. Safe travels!

Temptress! I have got to have some of that vintage dishes fabric! I'm going to share the link to it on a 'mid-century modern kitsch' fb group I follow with several thousand members. Bet it sells out instantly! Thanks for sharing -- my dh's wallet disagrees 😉

I know! Isn't that fabric just to die for? Check out the designer too, if you like that style. She was new to me. She's German and has SO many cute things. https://www.jolijou.com/

Great post - good luck at QuiltCon, though you won't need it, you'll be fine. Love the Paperie quilt: it reminds me of the noticeboards which are crisscrossed with ribbon and you don't need to use drawing pins, you can push your postcards and notes behind the ribbon! Quite appropriate, don't you think?
Amy Smart
Yes! That's a perfect comparison!

Your post about Winter Quiltfest just made me yearn for that new Jen Kingwell BOM. Thanks for the clip about her fabric selection technique. I thought I was "more is better", but I'm not sure I've come even close to 200 fabrics! Do you think my hubby really needs closet space?! Ha, ha. Good luck with your February adventures.

Hi Amy, I love your fabric choices and new quilt blocks ... beautiful! I live in Canada and while we have a really nice LQS, I order at least half of my fabrics online from the US. When I find a collection that I absolutely must have, I never know how much of each print to buy. Sometimes I'll order a pre-cut but I am finding them creatively limiting lately. Can you suggest a yardage of each print that you would order, especially if you didn't have a pattern in mind but just had to have the fabric? Thank you!! 🙂
Amy Smart
Good question. If it's something I like and I'll probably throw it into something, somewhere, I'll get a Fat Quarter. If it's something I really like and I know I'll wish I had more, I'll get a half yard. If it's something I really like, plus it's a great print for bindings, I'll get 3/4 -1 yard. I usually stock-up on large pieces for backs when I find good stuff on clearance.
That's not too scientific, but that's what I've found usually works best for me. 🙂

I'm a newbie to Quiltcon. I didn't in your class - but I still hope to meet you. Your blog is one of the first I followed and you have been very inspirational to me on my new quilting journey. You'll be a great teacher, just be yourself! Pamela

Crossing Guard Pattern was just made for these fabrics. : )

Paperie is the sweetest, and your pattern is the perfect pairing for the fabric. The quilt will be gorgeous! What a fun (albeit crazy) month for you! Enjoy!

Aaaak. I am the same.
But then, I am sooo easy.
I just bought a bundle of Paperie.
This Kitchen collection is so bright and sweet.

You'll be a smash hit at QuiltCon, and I'm sure you will have a great time! Great use of Paperie fabrics in your classic pattern--I love the comment that said it looked like one of those old-fashioned bulletin boards. Lovely! See you in a couple of weeks.

You have so much going on that it amazes me Amy! I bet you have the most fabulous time at QuiltCon.
Crossing Guard is one of my favorite patterns from your book and it looks so appealing done up in these fabrics!
Love the Pyrex bowl stuffed full of goodies too!

I have TOO much going on right now - everything all hit right at once! It's exciting, but I'm looking forward to calmer days! lol
