Some fun things. I've been working on a bunch of quilt blocks over the past few weeks. My design wall is looking so cheerful right now. One of those blocks is a free pattern to celebrate National Quilting Month. Did you know there was a National Quilting Month? Well, now you do. Another great excuse to quilt more this month. And if your family asks you what gives, you can just tell them you are doing your civic duty. 😉
This free pattern is for this 6" x 6" block which I called Rose Park. You can find the pattern here as part of the Baby Lock For the Love of Quilting site.
Baby Lock is celebrating National Quilting Month with a sewing machine giveaway as well as other free quilt block downloads. Visit the Baby Lock NQM 2016 page for all of the details!
I added my new block to my design wall. It looks and works so nicely with all of my Splendid Sampler blocks.
Yesterday the pattern for Block 8 was released. Here is my version. This pattern was designed by Julie Karasek.
If you're not familiar with the Splendid Sampler, it is a series of 100 free 6" x 6" quilt blocks that will be released over the next year. You can read more about the Splendid Sampler and how it works here.
I'm trying to stay caught up, but at the same time working at my own pace. I finally finished block #4 Happy Happy designed by Jen Kingwell this past weekend during some car travel. I had fun fussy-cutting for the applique flowers and I love how cheerful they are.
Here are my blocks so far. I've taken a few liberties and had fun making the blocks my own. For example I only made 4 little hearts on Melissa Corry's block #3 for my four kiddos. I'm not sure exactly the direction these will continue to go, but I'm having fun. Definitely pushing toward the super-scrappy. I started my blocks right after seeing Jen Kingwell's trunk show, so I'm definitely channeling her "more is more" mantra on this one.
And with that, Happy National Quilting month. There's lots more going on behind the scenes around here that I'll be sharing next week!

these blocks are so cute, thanks for sharing the link to them!

Amy as a newer quilter I truly appreciate how your use of fabric and color inspires and teaches me. I'm not able to go to a lot of classes right now, so you are opening up a lot of 'classrooms' for me (and others)!!!!
Lisa
The little circle flowers with the flower pot, the full size flower applique, and the colorful diamond shapes turned into stars, Perfect!

I've been looking at many quilter's blocks for The Splendid Sampler and I really love your color choices. So far, you have one of my most favorite collections! I love how you fussy cut the flowers in Jen Kingwell's block and that big red heart fabric is so cute. Great job!

Oh, my, I love the flower pot block! Even though these are scrappy, I see a teal, mustard and red theme emerging, which gives it a subtle unity. Great start!

Great sampler blocks. The colors in Rose Park block set it off just right.

That IS a cheerful design wall. So many pretty blocks.

Thanks. I'm 'doing' the splendid sampler too and am not sure if I want to do the embroidery blocks so the Rose park block might just be what I need rather than doubling up on one of the sampler blocks. Love seeing what the 'professionals' are doing with these blocks.

I am a beginning quilter, and I love and have learned so much from your blog. Thanks for sharing!
I just love the red fabric you used for the heart in Block 1 of the Splendid Sampler? Is that a recent fabric that can still be bought? Would you happen to know where I could find it?
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas. I just love how you put colors and fabrics together.

Your blocks look great. I have been wanting to start the Splendid Sampler before I get hopefully behind.

Hi Amy I got the pretty Rose Park Quilt Block and it seems to be an easy block to make; however, it did not show what and how the block was put into a quilt. Can you send me a copy of a whole quilt so I'll know how to set one. Thank you.

I haven't created a full quilt pattern with this block at this point since BabyLock just asked for a block pattern this time. I'm sure it would look great in lots of settings!

Thank You Amy for all you do!!! 😊♥️
