Getting back into the groove after the holidays. We had a great break, and I have to admit that it was a little rough when that 6:45 alarm clock went off again, but at the same time it feels nice to get back into routines too. I managed to squeak in a little sewing during the holidays. Not a lot, but just enough to get my sew-jo going and feel productive.
This little beauty is for a friend with a new baby. I bought a bundle of Emmy Grace fabric (by BariJ for Art Gallery Fabrics) at quilt market in Houston in October. My roommates and I laughed when we got back to our rooms and we'd each independently bought this fabric! Great minds...
I've had it sitting by my machine ever since, itching to do something with it. A baby girl quilt seemed just perfect. The colors are gorgeous, with just a hint of pink to make it feminine, but not cutesy.
My quilt was quilted by Melissa of Sew Shabby Quilting. I asked for a big, loopy/floral design so that when I washed the quilt it would be crinkly and soft for baby.
Since the fabric is so great on it's own, I decided to go with a simple, traditional design to let the fabric show off. So I went with an old stand-by: half-square-triangles. You just can't go wrong, with HST's, I tell you. I'm planning to write up a little tutorial with fabric requirements, etc., if you want to make your own. Give me a few days to get things put back together here. I'll have it ready to go next week.
If you've fallen hard for Emmy Grace, like I did, it can still be found here, here, and here.

beautiful quilt! Following up on one of your past posts where you asked what we'd like to see on the blog this year, I'm curious how the process works of sending off a quilt to be quilted. Could you take us through the process? What state do you send it in? What if it's not perfectly squared up? How much backing do you provide? Do you send her the batting? Does it come back
