Huzzah! A newly finished quilt. I've had so many in the works in various stages that it feels good to finally have a finish to share!
This is a new design from me. I decided to call it Watchtower after visiting the Watchtower at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon a few weeks ago.
The fabrics in this quilt are from Pat Bravo's latest collection, Artisan. I saw this collection previewed at Quilt Market last spring and really wanted to do something with them. I added some Pure Elements to the mix in Empire Yellow, Spruce, Burnt Orange, Nocturnal, and Spiceberry.
I'm especially smitten with the indigo/denim blues and golds in this line. I love this sketched line print (Aged Allure Washed) especially. It was perfect for the binding. I think I used every last scrap I had.
For the backing fabric I used the Collar Ends Copper print. It's a fun, different take on a chevron motif.
The quilting on this quilt was done by Melissa from Sew Shabby Quilting.
I created this quilt as a new design to teach at Winter Quiltfest in Logan, Utah, in January. (Spaces are still available for that class, if you want to come.) The pattern will be released officially in 2016.
Artisan fabrics are available from Pink Castle Fabrics, Mad About Patchwork, Fat Quarter Shop, and Fabricworm.
And now, Winter has officially landed. I'm definitely having mixed feelings about that. The good news is no-yard-work/more-time-to-sew. The bad news is obvious (ice & cold.) But it does make things feel more festive for Christmas, so I'll live with it for now. Happy first of December!
In fun news, I'll be at American Quilting in Orem, Utah on Friday, December 4 to party for their Moonlight Madness Christmas celebration! It goes from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. If you're local, I'd love to see you there!

What an amazing quilt! I love the colors and the pattern. Do I see a new book from Ms Amy in 2016?
Amy Smart
Aww, thanks for asking. Not a new book for 2016. But some other plans are in the works! 😉

What a fantastic use of fabric in an interesting beautiful design. Wish I could join for your class but since I'm from Denmark I'll have to forward to your release of the pattern! The long dark winter should give me plenty of time to play:)

Love the pattern, very nice. This is a very gender friendly pattern, been looking for a pattern for service men, I think this just might fit the bill! Looking forward to the pattern release!

SO Gorgeous!! LOVE!

This is a lovely quilt. I especially like the blocks that are not quite granny squares. And I love that "Aged Allure Washed" print too. That's one I'd have to get in every color way. It's distinctive, but would still work as a blender, which makes it my favorite kind of fabric.

I love that backing print! But I back all my quilts in flannel. Can you tell the fabric companies to make more varied flannel prints, please? There are so few of them available and if you want wide flannel, there's even fewer patterns. I get tired of using the same mottled or scroll design in different colors for most of my quilts. Thanks!

What a fun quilt! Beautiful fabrics....on the front, and on the back of the quilt!!
Thanks for sharing....
Laura
I'd like to buy the fabric now, but don't know the yardages required for each fabric. Help!
Amy Smart
Here are the fabric req's:
15 assorted 2 ½” x width of strips (the scrappier the better) – more if desired. Or Fat Quarters are useful.
3 different 1/2 yard cuts of background (cream/white) prints – more if desired (I used White Linen Pure Elements [solid] and the two Pyrography Sinopia prints)
1 ½ yards yellow fabric (I used Empire Yellow Pure Elements)
1 5/8 yard Aged Allure Washed print (includes border and binding)
1 yard orange Fleuron Etch Autumn
5/8 yard border print (Betoken Shines)
4 1/2 yards backing
