Free Bloom Sew-Along from Lori Holt

Bloom block 7

Have you heard about Lori Holt’s free Bloom Sew Along? This is my version of Block 7. I love how it turned out! I think I’m going to make a bunch more.

The Bloom Sew a long is a free series of block tutorials by Lori using her Sew Simple Shapes as templates.

You can find the free pattern here. Every week, Lori shares a tutorial on her blog, Bee In My Bonnet, to walk you through the steps of each new block in the sampler. This week she is sharing Block 7.

Riley Blake Vintage Kitchen fabric

For my version of Lori’s blocks, I’m using the new Vintage Kitchen collection from Riley Blake combined with their classic Swiss Dot. I love the retro vibe in these prints!

I made one minor change to the block, adding a second circle to the flower. I used shape A-1 for this second circle. I felt like I needed a solid to break up and better show off the different, busy prints.Glue basting goes bad

And lest you think everything runs smooth all the time around here, let me share something from the blooper reel. I was happily, and a little smuggly perhaps, glue-basting my applique shapes, when this happened. Yes, that is a giant glob of glue. D’oh. That’ll be a lesson to make sure the lid is screwed on tight and not to squeeze too hard. Thank goodness washable glue really is washable. 😉

Love this little block! Your fabrics are just great….and, by the way, I have the same set of bowls!
Nice to know other quilters have mishaps occasionally, too!!

I’m also making this quilt and I like your fabric choices. It looks very different from the Calico collection that she is using in the sew along.
