I've had fun playing with my Gretel fabric recently, making some smaller projects for gifts. It's fun finding new ways to show off some of my favorite prints - this line is so great for fussy-cutting. With Mother's Day approaching, I also figured some of these unique Mother's Day gift ideas that might come in handy. (This post contains affiliate links.)
Unique Mother's Day Gift Ideas
Christopher Thompson of the Tattooed Quilter organized a fun swap among other Riley Blake designers where we would make this fabric basket using fabric from our collections and then fill it with goodies.
The pattern for this fabric basket is A Tisket a Tasket a 2 Fat Quarter Basket by Me and My Sisters Designs. It was SO slick and so much fun to make! And it's just the right size for holding a bundle of fat quarters.
I also filled the basket with some other Gretel supplies including the coordinating Gretel Washi Tape, woven labels, and some handmade fabric covered button magnets. Gretel fabric is available here, here, here, and here.
Another recent make with Gretel was this cute little Needle Book that I made using the Mending Book tutorial by Heidi Staples of Fabric Mutt. Heidi is the queen of fussy-cutting so I really tried to channel her skills for these little needle books. (BTW - Heidi has an adorable new book coming out with her signature style called Patchwork USA. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.)
I still love to see what other people are making with Gretel. Did you see this fun patchwork quilt variation made by Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew?
Allison has the pattern, Fat Quarter Friday, available for this one here.
And check out this AMAZING Granny Square patchwork variation. I'm so smitten! This one was made by Amanda Castor of Material Girl Quilts.
This one is made up of 1200 squares cut 2 ½" x 2 ½", laid out in diagonal rows and sewn together. No pattern, but I sure love the look (and the patience it must have taken)!
And then check out these adorable salt cellar pincushions made by Lesley Storts. I think they're wonderful! Lesley sent me a couple and they're both sturdy and beautifully made.
(Lesley sells her creations in her Etsy Shop Storts Market. She typically makes and lists a bunch at a time, but they sell out fast. You can follow her Storts Market Instagram account to get information on when she'll have a shop update.)
If you're looking for other unique Mother's Day gift ideas, this Gifts for Quilters list has over 50 other ideas to either sew yourself or a full range of price options to buy for your favorite Quilter or sewing-lover.
(Which sometimes, is allowed to be yourself. You have my permission. 😉 )

OH MY.... these ideas are so so cute❤️. I love the bins, Of course all of my family and friends want and need hand made stuff by me. Always. (of course I have all the time in the world over here, taking care of hubbs, 4 grands to kiss and hug and my 95 year old daddy I care for daily) Haha, it irritates me that none of them want to learn to sew.!!!!! They are so silly.
For quick little pressies, I always make bins and coasters. ? Thank you Amy for sharing these gems
