I'm excited to introduce a new sponsor, My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe and My Girlfriend's Sewing Machine and Education Center. Their focus is on empowering women and creating a strong community of fierce friends where women (and men too!) feel safe to create and express themselves.
The original My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe was opened by Kris Thurgood with the idea of creating a place for a community of quilters to get together to learn new skills and support each other. She was particularly inspired by a group of women who invited her grandmother to come sew with them, even though her grandmother wasn't a quilter. This group became a source of strength through her grandmother's terminal illness.
With that story in mind, Kris wanted to create an environment where friends and quilters could gather. My Girlfriends also places a high priority on supporting women in need in the local community including projects supporting local women's shelters for victims of domestic abuse.
Kris's goal is to be a gathering place of encouragement and support for quilters of all levels. As part of that goal they built a store with lots of space for teaching and gathering. The original store opened in Logan, Utah with ample room for classrooms or time to just get together and sew with friends.
They have since expanded to two more My Girlfriend's locations - a fabric shop in Midway, Utah (one of my favorite little towns!) and a Sewing Machine and Education Center in Sandy, Utah. This location is not a traditional quilt shop (though they do sell fabric bundles and kits) but is a beautiful new sewing education center.
My Girlfriend's is also a dealer for Baby Lock sewing machines (my favorite!) and offers lots of great classes on how to use and get the most out of your sewing, embroidery, or longarm quilting machine.
Each location offers a full slate of classes - from 2 hour long options to full day or multi-day events and retreats in their brand new spacious classrooms. If you're a Utah local or traveling to Utah check out the variety of classes they offer.
The mission has now expanded to online classes and resources, including selling kits, notions, and supplies online as well. You can check out their online quilting classes here with more in the works!
You can also check out their online shoppe here including quilt kits, wool projects, and precuts.
I love the mission of My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe - not to just provide fabric and quilting supplies, but to empower, educate and bring women together.
My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe is hosting a generous giveaway on Instagram. This includes 2 tickets to the Utah Quilting & Sewing Marketplace (@uqsm.downunderdiversions) in May, a full Make Yourself At Home fat quarter bundle, and a $100 gift card to My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe (which can also be used online if you live out of state). This giveaway is run completely through this Instagram post. You can enter here.
I hope you have some great Girlfriends you can sew with. And if you don't, find a local shop of your own and sign up for a class. I guarantee there will be new girlfriends waiting there for you!

While I do believe in the power of women because I come from a family of 6 sisters and 3 daughters I'm the only brother. I hope you welcome male quilters, I am a male quilter and I have my own long arm quilting business in the San Francisco bay area.
Amy
Absolutely! I think all quilters are included. 🙂
(I come from a family of 4 sisters and 1 brother. My brother has put up with so much over the years with so many crazy sisters! He's the best. I'm guessing your sisters feel the same. xo)

I love the sewing machine quilt shown above the sewing machine in the photo. Is it sold as a kit or maybe a pattern?
Rosemary Castillo-Sartin
It’s a pattern! They might have a kit for it. Give them a call. It’s a great store!

Sounds wonderful!! I live on the east coast.

Too bad the giveaways are on social media only (Instagram). Many of us do not use social media by choice to protect our privacy. Need to consider other methods for giveaways - other's do...….
Amy
I totally understand your concern. This is the first one I've ever done solely on social media- the majority are on this site. This time it was at the request of the MGQS. And I have a lot of followers who are only on Instagram, so sometimes giveaways are for that audience too.
But stay tuned because I have another big giveaway coming this month that will be here!
Reba
I love your mission!!
Brenda King
I love your idea of building women with sewing and quilting, friendship, and lots of fun!
Monica Kostak
I entered on Instagram last night .I do subscribe to the youtubes and emails. I love the embroidery patterns and information i've learned which will help expand that side of the house for me, even though I quilt too. Utah is a bit far from Texas, so I'll continue reading on line.... (maybe I'll win!)
Doreen
What a awesome shop and mission! Wishing them success and all the best!
