Modern Baby Quilts + Book

I had a fun surprise show up in my mailbox yesterday. My very own copy of Martingale’s new book Modern Baby: Easy, Fresh, and Fun Quilt Designs! It goes without saying that I was excited, but it was also perfect timing for my stop on the Modern Baby blog tour.

This book, available in both hardcopy an ebook formats, contains the patterns for 14 cheerful, contemporary quilts by some very talented and creative folks, whose company I am humbled to be a part of. I am so excited to use this book! Baby quilts are my absolute favorite quilts to create. I love making them for gifts, but I also probably love them due to my short attention span. Baby quilts are the perfect way to pull out new colors and fabrics and ideas, but because they aren’t big, they’re easier to actually finish. Then I can move on to the next big idea!

My contribution for this book – is called Crossweave. As are a lot of modern quilts, this quilt was inspired by a very traditional quilt block. I can’t say I’m a purist when it comes to defining ‘modern quilts’. I don’t really stick to definitions, I just create what I feel like making.

Modern Baby quilt pattern.
By adding the one solid color (see! my love for white fabric!) this quilt is a great one for bringing cohesion to a variety of monochromatic prints. It’s also perfect for using precut 5″ charm squares and 2 1/2″ strips.
I’m itching to make a boy version of this quilt.  It’s not a pattern that screams one gender or the other, so could be easily personalized depending on the colors you use. I’m thinking of trying navy blue next.
Well guess what! Today Martingale is giving away an Ebook of Modern Baby to one of you readers! Please just leave a comment on this post to enter to win. Giveaway open until Monday, May 6 at midnight MST. A winner will be announced and Martingale will send you a copy of the book! And you have 13 other chances to win. Visit any of these other blog stops and check out the quilt they created for Modern Baby as well. Good luck!  GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Amy, I love your Crossweave design! It's stunning in simplicity, and I really like the white and red. My MIL was looking for a good pattern to use up charm squares, I'll definitely recommend this one.

I love baby quilts too! I just finished quilting a rather larger wall hanging on my very standard machine. The whole time I was looking at the baby quilt on my design wall wishing the wall hanging was the same size! I love your quilt! Thanks for the chance to win a copy! <br />mrs(dot)hbraun(at)gmail(dot)com

What a stunning book. Love the monochromatic quilts. As my stash is all organised per colour … it makes choosing fabric so much easier with these lovely designs in the book! Holding thumbs to be the lucky one!

  6. says

Oh Amy! I LOVE your pattern. I was studying that first picture to looking for seams in the &quot;sashing&quot; – at first glance I had a different block pattern for your quilt. Then, I figured out how you pieced it — so Smart (get it? Ha!). (The drawing makes it a lot more obvious — I should have scrolled down first.) Beautiful!

  7. says

Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I would love to win a copy of this book, and make everything. I&#39;ve liked every quilt design, and quilting motifs, that I&#39;ve seen. Thanks for the chance.

Awesome! I would SOOOO love to win this book. We just received an announcement in the mail yesterday that we are going to have a Grand Niece or nephew in December. 19. says

What a lovely quilt. Congratulations! I love making baby quilts for the same reasons you mentioned. Plus, if you try to gift a bed-sized quilt to someone, there&#39;s a good chance they won&#39;t want it on their bed if it doesn&#39;t go with their current design scheme, or with their vision for what they want their room to look like. Baby quilts are always loved, always used, and such a

I so agree with you regarding what constitutes modern. I&#39;m really so unsure and I think that&#39;s a good thing. I just quilt what I like because I enjoy it and I find my I&#39;m most drawn to quilts that are considered &quot;modern&quot;, which isn&#39;t to say I don&#39;t appreciate so many others, too. I love your quilt … traditional with a modern look … and would be pleased as punch

I always bought those lovely soft thermal blankets from JC Penneys, spent over 60.00 to have one made for the last great grandson.
