Modern Baby Quilts + Book

I had a fun surprise show up in my mailbox yesterday. My very own copy of Martingale's new book Modern Baby: Easy, Fresh, and Fun Quilt Designs! It goes without saying that I was excited, but it was also perfect timing for my stop on the Modern Baby blog tour.
This book, available in both hardcopy an ebook formats, contains the patterns for 14 cheerful, contemporary quilts by some very talented and creative folks, whose company I am humbled to be a part of. I am so excited to use this book! Baby quilts are my absolute favorite quilts to create. I love making them for gifts, but I also probably love them due to my short attention span. Baby quilts are the perfect way to pull out new colors and fabrics and ideas, but because they aren't big, they're easier to actually finish. Then I can move on to the next big idea!
My contribution for this book - is called Crossweave. As are a lot of modern quilts, this quilt was inspired by a very traditional quilt block. I can't say I'm a purist when it comes to defining 'modern quilts'. I don't really stick to definitions, I just create what I feel like making.
Modern Baby quilt pattern.
By adding the one solid color (see! my love for white fabric!) this quilt is a great one for bringing cohesion to a variety of monochromatic prints. It's also perfect for using precut 5" charm squares and 2 1/2" strips.
I'm itching to make a boy version of this quilt.  It's not a pattern that screams one gender or the other, so could be easily personalized depending on the colors you use. I'm thinking of trying navy blue next.
Well guess what! Today Martingale is giving away an Ebook of Modern Baby to one of you readers! Please just leave a comment on this post to enter to win. Giveaway open until Monday, May 6 at midnight MST. A winner will be announced and Martingale will send you a copy of the book! And you have 13 other chances to win. Visit any of these other blog stops and check out the quilt they created for Modern Baby as well. Good luck!  GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Plus, if you try to gift a bed-sized quilt to someone, there's a good chance they won't want it on their bed if it doesn't go with their current design scheme, or with their vision for what they want their room to look like. Baby quilts are always loved, always used, and such a pleasure to make and give.

Thank you so much for your comments - they make my day! I try to respond to as many as my 'mommy' time allows, but life sometimes gets in the way. Please know how much I appreciate each of them.

I apologize for the current comment settings that require a registered user account. They are the only way that I don't get tons of gross spam. I'm hoping Blogger will make a way where people who are not registered users, but would like to leave a comment can do so. Please, Blogger! In the mean time, thanks for your patience.

I also love to respond to questions. If you are a no-reply blogger, please leave an email address so I can get back to you. Or you can email me directly: amy @ diaryofaquilter.com. Thanks!
