    Cascade Falls Quilts in Solids

Published: Mar 16, 2024 by Amy Smart · This post may contain affiliate links · 1 Comment

This time I thought it would be fun to share a couple more versions of my latest pattern, Cascade Falls - this time in solids. I love seeing the same pattern in multiple colors and fabrics.

If you've been following my sewing projects for the past month, you've seen me working on this solids version. (And thanks to those eagle-eyed viewers who noticed I had a patch of half-square triangles going the wrong direction. I was able to get those fixed before the quilter got to my quilt!)

For this quilt I made the Crib Size version in the pattern. It's a generous Crib size (48" x 48"). I added a 3" border all the way around and it ends up being 54" x 54" making it a small lap-size quilt. I decided to add the border on this one because I wanted the solid designs to really pop.

For this version I used a Linen/Cotton blend as the back ground fabric to give the quilt some contrasting (but subtle) texture next to all of those solid prints.

Here is the list of Riley Blake Confetti Cotton solids and Rile Blake Dapple Dot basics that I used. (After taking this picture I decided the yellow was too light and added a dark gray.)

Riley Blake Basics: Confetti Cottons and Dapple Dot
    • Marsala
    • Canyon Rose Dapple Dot
    • Burnt Orange
    • Honey (not used in final quilt)
    • Butterscotch
    • Lodge Pole
    • Rain Drop
    • Stargazer Dapple Dot

    • Storm Dapple Dot
    • Steel (not pictured, used in final quilt)

This one was quilted by Sew Shabby Quilting using her Sunrise panto.

    Two-Tone Solids Quilt

The second quilt is a two-tone variation of this pattern. This quilt is made using Confetti Cottons Lodge Pole and Cloud.

This smaller version is 38" x 38" and made with 16 blocks and a 3 ½" wide border.

For this version I swapped the Light and Dark fabrics to give the design a different look and I LOVE how it turned out!

I hand quilted this one with a thicker thread and large scale stitches. I love the feel and drape that it gives to the quilt. (Suzy Quilts has a tutorial and video for this kind of hand quilting.)

Here's another look at them side by side for comparison. Isn't it fun to see how different fabric choices/placement can change the whole look of the quilt?

And here is the original version again in Albion fabric:

Thanks so much for the kind response to this new pattern.

I love my square Stripology ruler and my mini. I have had the square ruler since October 2017. I don’t use any other ruler now. My blocks come out perfect.
